The Cuban Revolution Journal

The Cuban Revolution was a successful revolution. On the other hand, I do not think that the revolution was worth it. Fidel Castro was able to change Cuba completely. The U.S. stopped sugar trading with Cuba soon after the revolution and placed an embargo against Cuba. In the end, Cuba strengthened their relationship with Soviet allies. By late 1961, Fidel Castro shows his communist thinking to the public. The revolution ended the government’s corruption. However, Cuba got an embargo in return. This embargo on Cuba was one of the most abiding embargoes in history. Cuba had a shortage on food and medical supplies, this embargo also restricted tourist and effected the Cuban economy.

Do you want to know what happened in Cuba between 1953 to 1959? Yeah the revolution that involves the T-shirt person, Che Guevara, the person that survived over 300 murder attempts ,Fidel Castro and the “Big Bad Batista” that started this revolution. Before we start learning more about the revolution, you should take a look at list the below:

-Sierra Maestra Mountains=tallest mountain range in CubaSierra Maestra Mountains

-M26-7=a rebel group led by Fidel Castro

-Operation Summer=an attack against the M26-7

Lost in the Antarctic

Lost in the Antarctic by Tod Olson is about  an adventure to the Antarctic, with the ship Endurance trapped in ice, the crew had to survive in the Antarctic with little food and shelter. A cool part of this book is that the author put facts and historical events together in a way it seems like it is telling a story. Going to the Antarctic was something not all sailors wanted, most of the crew were just interested in the payment. While the crew knew they had to follow order from the boss, some of the crew started to doubt him.

I would recommend this book to everyone of those adventure lovers. This book tells you facts in an interesting way so you would want to continue reading. Here a some of my notes when I was reading this book.

As i was reading, I noticed that going to the Antarctic was something people were proud of, but only a small amount of people were interested in the voyage to  the Antarctic. most of the crew were interested in the pay they were given.

When I got to the middle of this book, i noticed how some of the crew were inexperienced, it seem like they were not aware of the upcoming challenges.  This leads to a central idea of the book, people should be aware of challenges when you have a big goal.

Nearing the end of the book, i realized something that came up over and over again was that when ever a plan failed, the crew started to doubt the boss. After reading this, I came up with another theme for this book, everyone makes mistakes, don’t judge people by their mistakes.

When i finished the book, I reviewed the connections lesson, I found quite a lot of extra information that connected to the story later on. For example, the boss said that losing fingers in the Antarctic was a common thing, in the 1st chapter, and by the end of the book, a men had lost his toe.

Thank you for reading my post!

The Sun is Also a Star Book Talk

In my book talk, I talked about how the author believes that logic and reason don’t have to always go against passion. Just like how Natasha and Daniel fell in love with each other, they changed each other’s lives by make Natasha more Passionate and Daniel more logical.

Found Poem

This found poem was created with the words of “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” by W. D. Wetherell.  I wanted to start my found poem with the beginning of the conflict and do the explaining with showing instead of telling. I wanted to show how the main character regrets his decision with the words haunted me. The type of conflict in this found poem is internal conflict, whether he should get the girl or get the fish. I tried to show his conflict by using the words” miraculously, the bass was still on,” and “the tug was too much for me.”

Hugos Wallet (Faux Leather Challenge )

My wallet solves my problems because it can hold both cards and cash at the same time.

I think the most important design on my wallet is the snap on leather and pocket on right.

If I could redo my wallet, I will make it longer, sew in straight line, cut in. straighter and use more leather.

A skill I learned was how to use a sewing machine and how to put snaps on leather.

Something I struggled with was sewing in a straight line, so i wont waist too much leather.

My Problem

My ID card holder has a problem, it cracked in the middle so my ID card may falls out when I move. I think I am going to make an ID card holder or a wallet.

Hugo’s Smell Detector

I created a cardboard prototype of a watch that detects smell. The watch detects smell by pressing the button on the side, air with smell will go inside the watch, then the name of the smell will appear on the screen of the watch. Picture 2 shows a rubber band so we can wear the watch easily. This watch was inspired by the people that sat around me.

LightBox

This year in product design, I was challenged to make a Lightbox that shows a place special to us. I chose Hong Kong, I was not able to travel anywhere this year because of COVID. i learned lots of different skills this year is product design. we learned how to use adobe illustrator to create the shape we wanted to make our light box, learn to use wood glue to join pieces of wood to make our box and learned to use masking tape to paint our pieces. if i could do my light box again i might make my boat a little bit smaller, add more color, paint more carefully and try to hide the LEDs better.
