Express

When I was brainstorming about the yellow leaves door, I had an idea about the book, “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The book is about a girl called Mary discovering about a beautiful secret garden behind a door. I want to express brightness in my art work.

Observe

Original artwork

Observation drawing

For the actual drawing, it had a lot of yellow leaves and branches. They were colored with yellow (leaves), and darkish brown for the branches. For my observation drawing, the leaves are yellow (same as the actual drawing), and the branches are more close to black, even I overlapped brown a little bit on top. Also, for my drawing, the branches and leaves are a bit less than the actual drawing. For the frame of the door, I accidentally colored it wrong. I was suppose to mix brown and black, but instead, I colored brown. There was a word “HOAX” written on the frame of the door!

Understand the Art World

I got this screenshot from a video called, “The Most Inspiring and Unique Entry Doors.” The door has a lot of golden leaves and thin, long brown colored branches. I think the frame of the door is made out of wood, branches made out of plastic, and the golden leaves also made out of plastics.

This inspired me because there was a vey similar looking tree in front of my grandmas house in Korea, so I decided to pick this door. I used to take picture and play around that tree, so I have a lot of memories.

Reflect

The media that I liked the most was the acrylic section. The reason I really liked acrylic section was because it has different textures: rough, smooth, bumpy, etc.

One technique I did not use, but want to use later is using dry brush when I’m painting. When we were copying the little drawing, I used wet brush, so the paint kind of blended, and it looked kind of messy. (But after it dried, I colored it on top)So next time I want to use more dry brush and paint them.

One thing we need to remember when we are cleaning up is the acrylic paint. When we are cleaning, we have to clean the brush carefully and really well. Because if you wash them roughly, the brush’s hair might fall off and if you don’t wash them well, the paint will stay in the brush, and it will be hard to wash them off later.

Artistic Studio Habits

This is an artwork I did with out group. This artwork is engage and persist. I mad this work collaboratively with my two other teammates. Three habits I noted in the work is: 1. engage and  persist, 2. develop craft, 3. express.

Question One: What details do you notice in your work? Observe

One detail I noticed from this artwork is that all these little beads have different textures and sizes. Some beads have rough , bumpy textures but some have smooth textures.

Question Two: What did you learn about the media you used? Develop Craft

One thing I learned about this media I used is using right amount of glue. If you squeeze too much, you’ll see all the glues between the beads, and if you squeeze too little, all the beads will fall off from the paper.

Question 3: How did you plan your work? Envision

I planned this work with my group mates. We all had same idea of happiness so we decided to use beads and magazine papers to make this art work.

At home, I am a kind-hearted daughter, and an amazing sister. At school, I am a very hard-working student, who always try to finish my homework on time.
I am an optimist: When I do something wrong, or when something goes wrong, I always try to think positively. I am sometimes very impatient. I usually get impatient when I don’t know what to write next sentence for my essay.
I am a gourmet. I love to try all different types of food from all around the world. When I visit new countries, I always order their traditional foods. I am a TWIX lover. Whenever I feel exhausted, I take out a TWIX from the refrigerator and eat it secretly.
I am a person who don’t enjoy swimming and running. Instead, I like to wear my pajamas, lie on my gigantic bed and watch YouTube.
I am a clown and horror movie hater. I always get goose bumps when I watch horror movies. I am a cheese popcorn lover. Whenever I go to the movie theater, I always order cheese popcorn with a Starbucks drink. I am a winter lover. When it’s snowing, I love to go outside with my little sister and build a snowman or snow fight. Lastly, I am a person who always tries to keep everything clean and neat. Every day, I clean out old dirty papers in my computer bag and violin case every day. Don’t label me.

Cranky contraption

-My biggest obstacle was:

1. Cutting the main part.

2. Bending the wire.

-Skills that I learned or developed were:

1. How to use jig-saw

-One thing I’d like to change is:

1. Change the color of my main part (the wood)

PRECIOUS PLASTICS

To make the tiles, I first picked the plastics. I wanted to be blueish green with white, so I mixed blue, white, and green. After choosing 3 colors, I also chose a mold. I wanted my tiles to be hexagon shape, so I chose hexagon shaped tiles. Next, I sprayed the baking spray to not make the plastic stick on the mold. After, I put the mold into the oven and waited for about 30-40 minutes. After 30-40 minutes, I took my mold out of the oven and used sharp tools to get the plastic out of the mold. I repeated that steps for 4 times to make 4 tiles. When I finished making 4 tiles, I used hot glue gun to stick them together.

I am really proud that I made 4 tiles, because we didn’t have enough ovens and mold, I still made 4 tiles.
