The green inferno – The Cuban revolution video project

The Cuban Revolution was a legendary political upheaval that took place in Cuba during the late 1950s. Led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, the movement successfully overthrew the government of the Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959. This revolution had a significant impact on Cuban society and politics, and it continues to be studied and debated by historians to this day. It also played an important part in the cold war, leading to the Cuban Missile crisis.

Many important historical figures appeared in this historical event, with main focus on Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Fulgencio Batista, and later on Kennedy and Khrushchev.

This video gives a very brief rundown and a summary of the entire revolution, as well as the political conflict, and what Cuba was like before and after the revolution.

Google it – A history of google

Google it – A history of google by Anna Crowley Redding is a biographical book about the Journey and hardships between two rising entrepreneurs, Larry page and Sergey brin Two legendary intellectuals and how a simple idea to organize the internet evolved into the google and so much more that is today, as well as a subtle time machine into what the pre-google past is and what the exciting future might just become. The book really dives into the details of different innovations that google has manifested from simple but ambitious ideas, with many of that you are familiar today, and you can also learn valuable lessons from the problems they have conquered. This book was extremely fun to read and genuinely inspired me; Here’s my ideas.

This page shows my interpretation of the main idea (Which was innovation was extremely important) and many many pieces of major and minor evidences Ifound while reading. The Author really immerses the reader in how impactful google was in an age of informational difficulty.

This page shows further evidence on how the will to stray from tradition and create more really helps someone as I read further into the book, and I also went back, reread some parts and tried to analyze what traits two founders of google had in common to make Google work. At the same time I wrote down all my thoughts and reflection and how this book changed the way I think about our generation.

Finally this page shows the primary hardship that was introduced in the book, which was privacy issues regarding Gmail. I tried to jot down the basic process of how the resolution came to be, as well as the huge change in attitude from the outsider perspective. I again also noticed some details that tied to the main theme.

Thank you for reading my blog and make sure to check out the Book. Again, thank you have have a great day.

Am I a humanist?

Am I a humanist? by Arthur Li [STUDENT]

Gluttony

Found poem original link

Found poem By Arthur Li

This found poem is based on “Lamb to the slaughter“, a short story written by Roald Dahl, about a mentally unstable wife of a detective that kills her husband with a piece of lamb leg after he tells her something unrevealed to the reader, and what she does to escape from the law. The reason I chose gluttony as a title signifies the reason how the weapon was disposed of; Eating.

The main purpose of this poem is to hopefully explain the conflict and story of Lamb to the slaughter, which I think could be either Character vs Character, or Character vs society. Both mainly being External conflict.

However I Feel like the overarching conflict would be Character vs society, and that the Characters in this story that appeals to Mary as an antagonist is merely a catalyst for the story, which is in my opinion Integral in a Character Vs Society story. In this book, the two main catalysts being Mary’s husband and the police officers. On paragraph 16 Page 3, The husband Angers Mary by telling her some news that angers her, which causes the kill to take place, but the story is not over. This merely sparks a bigger problem for herself. She must escape from society and law as a whole, as even if she was executed, she is uncertain if her unborn child would die with her. She is not willing to risk it, and must trick the police members into helping her later on in the story.

This can be proven via “She began thinking very fast. As the wife of a detective, she knew quite well what the penalty would be.”  “What were the laws about murderers with unborn children?” “Did they kill them both — mother and child? Or did the wait until the tenth month? What did they do?

Now relating this to the found poem, the upper half was mainly used to explain how Mary decided to kill her husband, (From “Smiling air” to “Reject it all”) and the growing conflict that gets worse until Mary goes completely insane as seen by the rapidly repeating phrases of “don’t want it”.

Then comes Nausea, and then a leg of lamb. The weapon of murder.

This marks the end of the first half of the poem, which then Mary begins to think about the consequences Following “Laws. Penalty. What did they do?” This Signals that “they” aren’t just merely police officers who come into her house, it was the justice system as a whole. She then manifests her plan, begins acting (“Acting, That was better”), creating an alibi(“which grocer?”), and finally reporting the murder to the police(Dead!). Mary then proceeds to infamously dispose the weapon when the police “does a favor” And eats the meat.

Finally, the poem ends off with “Mary Maloney began to giggle.” With a full stop to signal that her plan has been successfully concluded. Also, An easter egg in the poem is that I have hidden multiple “they”s to show how she did not escape the execution just yet, as society and justice is everywhere around you.

For the visuals of the poem, I tried to stick to a house-ish aesthetic which mainly composed out of a window, with fonts being Times new roman as in my memory, seems like a font one would find on a newspaper about something serious in the 60s. Aside from this, I chose a window as it is simplistic, Not too flashy, and also had white space where I could hide My “They”s as a small little easter egg to back up my claim.

This concludes my Found poem and what type of conflict this is. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

Design cardboard arcade games

-My biggest success was……..

My biggest success was when we got more kids to play our game by adding a timed system. Originally before we added the timing system our game had really low popularity and almost no kids were willing to play it.

-One thing I’d like to change..

A thing I like to change is to decorate the arcade game, color some cardboard, make the title better etc…

-If I did this again, one thing I would change is…..

I would make the design more creative and different, rather than an ordinary maze, which was one of the reasons why not much players are playing it at the start.

Cup insulator reflection

Cup insulator

Team members: Arthur John Rayan

  1. We tried to insulate the cup and the cold air outside and also keeping the water inside warm.
  2. I tested if each material was insulating by breathing hot air and try to feel the heat on the other side. Another thing I did was put as many layers on the cup as possible.
  3. I found out that Thicker “clothing” for the cup doesn’t mean more protection
  4. The thick cup clothing falls off easily, which makes it less effective. Also, the temperature could also float out through the top part where you drink.
  5. The thick clothing doesn’t only make it harder to drink but also doesn’t stick to the cup and falls out which makes it ugly too. And, because we did not cover the top of the cup, the hot air can easily escape.
  6. I was proud of how I found a new way to test the temperature.
  7. I would have taken out the cotton balls and steel wool so the clothing around the cup is thinner and I will also cover the top with aluminum.
  8. The hardest thing was making up the idea and creating the prototype
  9. Some limitations are when making the prototype, there are some                         things that paper wasn’t able to imitate.
