Reflections in Technology- Final Project

Title: Reflections in Technology,   Inspired by Lee Friedlander

In this series of photographs, inspired by the photographer Lee Friedlander, I captured reflections on various technological devices that have become parts of our daily lives. Each image portrays a perspective, revealing our physical and virtual worlds. The reflection on the TV screen represents the  nature of entertainment, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. The iPad’s reflection reflects our constant connection to the digital realm, where information and communication merge seamlessly. The iPhone’s reflection is a testament to our reliance on personal devices, encapsulating our interconnectedness and the modern human experience. Finally, the laptop’s reflection symbolizes the working world, showcasing the intersection between technology and productivity.

Statement of Intent:

The Title of my project is “The Reflection of my Geographical/architectural Identity”

I aim to investigate how our sense of self is influenced by the places we experience, the cultural contexts we encounter, and the diverse landscapes that shape our geographical/architectural identities.

I hope to spark a connection to the locations captured in the mirror self-portraits, showing appreciation for the diverse beauty and cultural nuances of the world

Styles/ Photographer Chosen

6 Concepts to practice:

  • The decisive moment
  • Work the Scene- Don’t just take one photo
  • Don’t move- The finishing Technique
  • Capture Gestures
  • Get really close – One arm length
  • Eye Contact

3 Chosen concepts by me:

  • Focus on the Background
  • Look for things out of place / unusual situations
  • Visual Elements – Tone/Value

Photographer Chosen: Ernst Haas

Street Photography: A Complete Guide | PetaPixel

Image Evaluation:

This street photograph shows good use of shadow and the utilization of visual elements such as tone, color, and contrast to make certain elements bolder yet well-placed. This red sign seems bright but rather blends in with the shadow and wall.

Present- FINAL

\

In terms of the two photos on the left and right, they were taken in downtown Beijing, the left being the China World Building and the right being the CCTV building. These photos are from set 2, highly inspired by Sebastien Weiss’s works all over the world. The photos are meant to represent simplicity, yet complexity and abstraction as the main subject is simple to identify but the photo shows a very unusual perspective for these photos. For the photo in the middle, the photo was taken as the 798 district capturing a set of patterns brought from the parking lot. The photo is highly inspired by Josef Hoflehner as he takes photos capturing abstract patterns everywhere. The photo I took is meant to speak detail and abstraction as the photo is only revealing the main subject and the main subject only. To wrap up the abstraction unit, i would like to recognize the fact that i highly benefited from this unit as it taught me many different aspects and skills when it comes to art generally and photography.
