Reflection and evaluation
Did my triptych do what it was intended to do?
Restating my intent:
The intention of my triptych will be to portray items, beings, and natural beauty in a place, that is often overlooked. I want the effect on the audience to be surprised, as well as peace. I want to manipulate the subjects so that they show beauty. This could be through a pattern or a texture. For inspiration, I will look for a photographer who finds beauty in unconventional things. Finding something horrendously ugly and making it pretty is the goal. Beauty is all around us, it’s hiding behind a mask that can be lifted.
The intention of my triptych will be to portray an industrial world with beauty. I want images of items, processes, and places that are often overlooked to get their time of day.
My triptych was initially intended to portray beauty in life’s often overlooked or underlooked areas. This was stated in my statement of intent at the start of the project. I intended to borrow ideas and inspiration from the artist Keld Helmer Petersen, who used high contract photography to show industrial, highly angular compositions. My images did as they were intended to do because they portrayed beauty and order in an ordinally overlooked place. My pictures show rugged textures and unpredictable patterns that create a beautiful composition. For example, in image 3, on the left of my triptych, there is an excellent sense of structure decay and grungy texture. Each of my photos has been unified with a standard monotone colour scheme. The slightly blue-toned black and white helps to make the images feel overlooked, as they are dark images, so we can infer that they wouldn’t necessarily grab your attention. To conclude, my pictures do meet my intentions. The sharp edges of my pictures meet the industrial requirements, and the unity is met with the black and white photos that share the same hues.
