Climate change V2

I am proud of explaining the topic climate change to my peers. Most people don’t recognize how important the questions is worldwide, and some activists even get hate for pouring soup on Vincent Van Goh’s paintings. Anyway, I believe that climate change is important because of a worldwide occurrence that has an impact on several facets of Earthly life.

The Mahero Revolution

Amigo’s, my friend, I am currently talking to you as a wealthy land owner who has just gone through one of the most horrified years in the Mexican revolution. For the past 30 years or so, I have been living under Diaz’s fantastic rule in which he separated land to owners like us, and  put 85% of Mexico’s railroad system used for transportation under our control. But now that my land, money, and wealth have been taken away, I get harassed everyday when I wake up from the fields, get teased everyday when I go out to buy breakfast for my wife and kids. Sometimes they tell me that it’s always better to live a peaceful life, than to really care about the wealth and power we use to have a long time ago. Gladly, I was able to live peacefully with my family, and still have time to take my kids to a decent public school. Even though I lost all of my land, and serfs that worked for me, I still do have to thank Alvaro Oregon for not killing me and my family. Maybe Jesus (God) just wants me to know that a happy life isn’t about having an immense amount of money, or isn’t about how much protection you have, in fact, it’s about how peaceful your life get’s even under a dangerous revolution time.

What changed during the Mexican revolution?

According to the Mexican revolution, something that changed was that the peasants who seemed worthless came into power. They not only took back the farmland that belonged publicly to them, but also they were able to fight against the dictators and wealthy land owners who treated them awfully.

What stayed the same in the Mexican revolution?

Something that stayed the same during the Mexican revolution is that it was always the weaker people from society fighting against the more powerful ones. (Because no one really cared and treated them nicely, they had to hold on to their hopes, and fight with their fists in order to claim the rights they had dreamed of.)

Quiet Power (Power of Introverts) summary

Summary

Introverts are great listeners and they’re likely to be successful.

The book I am currently reading is called Quiet power, the author Ms. Susan looks the world from the views of an introverted person. Introverted persons have unique personalities, but sometimes their actions are hard to understand for most people. At the beginning of the book, the author of the book listed out some manifestations for the introverts, hoping that they could change their personalities a bit it, and move on. Even under these circumstances, the author still wants us readers to acknowledge the beauty of their personalities.

Leadership abilities

The author also gave out other example from the text supporting her evidence of introverts are more likely to succeed in their communities. For example, Laurie described she cultivated the same quiet of manner-ship, she wanted to be the track team leader but due to her introverted personality, she was afraid of speaking In front of the group. One opportunity, she elected for the track team leader, and stepped out of her comfort zone to present a fabulous speech. Everyone agreed on her ideas, and she became leader immediately. There’s no avoiding the fact that young introverts face challenging situations in life, especially when it comes to school and social situations. However, with the right tools and frame of mind, introverted youngsters can not only persevere but flourish.

“Introverts are great thinkers and listeners”

As I have read a few pages pass the limit of this book, I found out that introverts can be great thinkers and listeners. It makes seem hard for them to get in to a group conversation assigned by the teacher, but they definitely know how to listen to people’s ideas and come up with new ones to make them better, or adding on to them. For example, David a Vietnamese kid in the US, is shy and skinny. He has been in his American school for years now, and of course he’s been thinking about attending the Student council election. One opportunity, he signed up for the new year student council election contest, and started off by saying a-lot of inspirational statements. He made promises that he will treat everyone equally with dignity, and will be holding a party at the end of the year if everyone can apply and follow the rules. With this amazing -inspirational speech he had almost all of the class votes, dominating the whole contest. It takes a lot of courage and dignity to stand in front of 20 people to make that public speech. (Because not everyone will have the same ideas as you, and there will always be people opposing your ideas.)

conclusion – Quiet power identifies the hidden super power of introverts and empowers them by helping them understand why it’s so hard to be quiet in a loudly and sometimes annoying world. By reading this book, I believe that introverts like me can easily ease my way on becoming more confident in social situations.

Am I a Humanist blog post

1.Studied Roman and Greek civilizations

Humanists reviewed ancient Roman ideal practices. As of architecture for example, they designed buildings with pillars and collins, similar those to the buildings in classic time.

Improve Greek and Roman thinkings

“In universities scholars began to teach methods of observation and experimentation. For example, Renaissance scientists proposed new ideas about starts and planets. Artists and students of medicine closely studied human anatomy.”

Humanists had different ideas on social status

Before humanists came up with amazing ideas, most Romans believed that if you were born a peasant, you’d always be a peasant. However, humanists believed that everyone should be treated with equal rights and values, not including your race or sex.

Humanists believed that all people had control of their lives, and achieve greatness

During the start of the renaissance, humanists created philosophical thinkings on dignity, and how it was important to the current society status.

The button of death or wealth?

My  poem tries to express the book I have been reading recently, Button Button. It is a very exciting book, and has shown a lot of conflicts between Norma and Arthur. So let me explain. One day, Norma got a special call from Mr. Steward, saying that she’ll receive a package that has a button inside. Without acknowledging the consequences that will happen later, she got into the game. A few minutes later, Mr. Steward came to the door, and opened the package. Within the package is a button. Mr. steward announced that if Norma presses the button, a person she does not know will die, but for payback, she will receive 50,000 dollars as payback.

Internal conflict: The internal conflict in the story is that Norma has to chose between killing a unknown person’s life, or choosing between the 50,000 dollars. If she chooses the money, she is most definitely against humanity, while if she chooses to save the unknown person, she will miss the big amount of cash.

The successful creation of our cardboard arcade

This is our amazing soccer cardboard arcade. And guess what, we faced a lot of challenges during this design.

I feel like my biggest success was when I got the materials and we carved carefully trying to not miss any small details while cutting a piece of cardboard.

I feel like my biggest obstacle was when my partner had conflict with me when we didn’t know who’s ideas was better. Lastly, everything changed, and we decided that his ideas was better. Due to his small useful details and the detailed labels he sketched on his plan paper.

Skill that I learned or developed were to cut with safely. For example, at the beginning of the class I always forget to put the blade down when putting the knife down. So that’s exactly how I got a lot of blaming from students and teacher. But I later changed by carefully cutting, and from that day on, I never forgot this important technique.

One concern Mr. layman shared with me was my cutting technique. He usually sees me using the knife with full blade on, or sometimes he sees me running around with a knife and blade up. ( This is exactly why I got banned from using the knife for more than 3 times.)

If I did this again, one thing I would do differently is to improve my cutting skills. As an example, if my partner Han sketched a straight line in the center of the cardboard, what I will do is to push the blade harder, so that it will go in the cardboard. Which may help straighten the line my partner just sketched for me.

One piece of advice I would give a future student doing this project is to be really careful when cutting these cardboards. First of all, never ever run around with a knife that has a blade on. Secondly, if you want to cut through these cardboards, then you must follow these directions:
1. Hold the knife 45 degrees angle. which is half of a straight 90 degrees angle.
2. Use some strength on the knife. Especially on the blade part. Which is the very front of the part.
3.Slip out the piece of cardboard you just cut. Because if you use some strength into the blade part of the knife, then it’s likely for you to slip the cardboard you just cut into 2 or two pieces.

Overall, I think this product was successful because we made a lot of communications and eye contacts for better understanding from each other. Secondly, our product were successful because we often reminded each other not to cut the cardboard with the blade fully stretched out.

Science cup insulator

Science cup design insulator
challenges that we faced during this project:
There were many challenges during this project. We had to draw a circle on the cardboard, and later carve it out with a sharp knife. Know as the blade.
Claim: During these 3 sessions in design lab, I learned that temperatures decrease and increase. (But it is not consistent.)
Evidence 1: As an example, the baseline of hot water was 88.6c. It later changed from 88.6-70.1c. That took 10 minutes to accomplish.Just before the 10 minutes block was over, the temperature had already gotten bellow 70c. But as I said before, temperature is not consistent. So it basically increased just before it was over.

Reflections:
We faced a lot of challenges during this project. For example, being burned by a hot glue gun, cutting your hand while using the blade, and stuff like that. But from all those things, we conquered our fears, and successfully made an awesome science cup insulator.
