Laser cutting blog

Part one: Forming an idea.

The idea of making a piggy bank came from the situation of me losing my coins and cash because i have no place to put them. They are usually stuffed in one pocket in my backpack, but I always forget to organize them, so something like coins were put separately in my house and never appeared when i need them happened. Therefore, my outline for this project was made: coin box.

I firs thought about making some cool designs on the seven sides of my coin box (everyone know that a box always have one side faced down that is not visible), but then realized it had to be special and different in some aspect. I knew I am not talented in making cool drawings, so why not focus on the function improvements.

Thinking back to my real life, I always had my cash stuffed together, and every time when I pull them out, the cash came out pulling the coins out, dropping everywhere. To prevent this, I thought about making my coin box divided into two sections: one for paper money, one for coins. And it also has a side that can be opened for taking my money out.

However, my design still looked to ordinary, I wanted to and more functions to it. I thought about the slit for a vending machine that can organize different coins dropped into the same hole automatically. But that will be too sophisticated, so I simplified it, into a box that was divided into two areas by a wood board in the middle, but with a slope to transfer coins on top, so that I can put everything inside one hole but separate them into different areas.

(That planning sheet was super helpful on planning stuff out)

Part Two: some growths are:

learning how to use Fusion 360, it has tons of functions in it that I can’t believe that I can really make something out of it

learning the basic steps of designing

learning how to laser cut stuff out

learning ways to improve my project after it was printed

Part Three:

Tips for other students:

  1. Making a specific and detailed plan is super important
  2. measure stuff precisely
  3. Use your time WISELY

What I would change:

There are some drawings that seemed to be unprocurable for our laser cutting machine, so I would make some different drawings if I redo it.

Caminos impredecibles

The was a first hand source found after Cuba revolution in America, the author of  this journal was called Pedro García, his brother was called Kedvra García. We don’t know how this journal got to American, but from the seller, we got the information that Pedro used to be a wealthy guy who experienced the whole Cuba Revolution…

AFTER the Cuba revolution, Cuba business’, especially on sugar, is facing to all the world. For independence, Cuba became a communist country after the revolution, which also helped a lot on reducing America’s influence. However, with out support from the USSR, which lost in the Cold War, Cuba’s voice became little in the world again.

What stayed the same was that Cuba’s economy still didn’t recover from America’s influence, the embargo still exist, and America was still making pressure on all aspects of Cuba, including the economy, military, and politics. Even after improvements made by Castro and all those presidents afterwards, Cuba is still defined as a developing country, trying to catch on the steps of the world.

World on the verge of destruction – Cuba Revolution

“A revolution is not a bed of roses. A revolution is a struggle between the future and the past.” — Fidel Castro.

The Cuba Revolution may not seem that thrilling or exciting, but it is crucial for a country to step to it’s future of independent and strong. It is obvious for a lot of countries, we can notice whether it is a colonial country from it’s language, thus, we will notice that Cuba used to be a colony that belongs to Spain. In 1902, Cuba welcomes it’s first turning point, which is when America fought Spain, America took Cuba over from Spain. However, America don’t want this this “delicious” piece of “meat” to go away, so they nominally gave Cuba freedom but made Cuba’s economy greatly depend on America. In 1952, Batista made this coup,  and promised to improve all Cuban’s life. However, he failed, so there comes a group of revolutionaries that wants to do it themselves, and that is how the Cuba Revolution started.

Introduction!

Quiet Power, a nonfiction book by Suzy Cain, illustrates multiple wise ways for introverts to become powerful. There is more than one story and it includes all kinds of people, but there are always ways for them to improve. The reason this book intrigues me is the comprehensiveness of conditions for introverts and this book gives a better understanding of the word introvert.

Day 3

Those quotes that relate to one of the themes in this book reveal the disadvantages of introverts in this society that requires people to express themselves but also gave practical recommendations to introverts to make up those advantages. This also shows that the author is a successful introvert with all those socializing skills.

Day 5

In today’s lesson, we did a debate (mostly presentation) on our central idea of the book Quiet Power. When preparing, we noticed all those facts about introverts; For example, at least 33 percent of introverts in our society, and not everyone that seemed vivid are extroverts.

Day 8

The class learned a new noting technique, which is noticing cause and effects throughout the book and being able to notice things that had a lot of cause/effect. For introverts in the society, there is a typical “disadvantage”, that is not communicating. For this disadvantage, there are obliviously a lot of causes, but in the effects area, our group noticed that there are two different outcomes, good ones and bad ones, which shows that things are not completely good or bad.

Day 9

By the technique of “going down the rabbit hole”, readers can learn about a lot of new knowledge that is not related to the book’s topic. For example, the book our group is reading is about introverts; However, the “rabbit hole” I dive in was about Wi-Fi, and learned facts like who invited the Wi-Fi, what is the full name…

According to the infographic above, I am 100% humanist. This is because I totally agree with all things humanists believe.

His Choice

The poem found above was taken from “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” written by W. D. Wetherell. This passage shows the conflict between character & himself (two choices), which is the choice losing the bass, or losing Sheila, a girl “I” had a crush on. In the rising action of the story was “I” invited Sheila to a concert, on the way to the concert when two of them was on the canoe, “I” herd Sheila said fishing was dumb. However, “I” noticed that a huge bass was caught by his hidden fishing rod. In the rest of the passage, the author was talking about the mental movement of “me” considering whether to get the bass or get Sheila’s good impression. As a result, which is in the resolution of the passage, “I” chose to cut the fishing line in half and let the bass go when the canoe got to its destination, but also didn’t succeed to get Sheila’s heart. The author at last left a mysterious quote said by Sheila, saying “You are a funny kid.”, which might just meant Sheila had a good time in the concert, but also has a possibility of meaning Sheila actually noticed “I” was hesitating about the bass, and noticed “I” had a crush on her.

1. What did you struggle with most?

At first, I was having a hard time having ideas of the speaker, and then having the right measurement for the speaker’s buttons and charger hole was difficult. At last, gluing the pieces together took me a long time but it is much easier than the others.

2. What aspect of this project are you most proud of?

The design is similar to the dice, which is what I want and I made a new speaker that can really work,

3.What skills did you learn or improved

I learned how to use affinity and how a speaker is made. The improvements I made are to design stuff in a more efficient way

Design Summative

My greatest success was having the idea of making a slide on the two sides of my product which enables the upper part move smoothly up and down.

My greatest obstacle was to make the two sides stand straight and steady.

Skills I learned are to use TABS (the L shape cardboard ) to make the cardboard stand and connected.

Something I learned about myself is it is easy for me to do things so fast that I can’t notice detail.

Something I like to change was not to make my product’s two walls thick because that wasted too much time.

My product relates to the real world because I got my idea of designing a crab shell cracker from a walnut cracker.

One feedback is ” you spend too much time on cutting your walls out, bruh” .

One advice I give is the bigger your product is, the longer time you spend.

It is a success because I made all the things that I imagined before making.

It is not a success because I didn’t get to put a spring on it so it can’t really work.
