The book, The Borden Murders, written by Sarah Miller describes one of the most bizarre murders and trials in American history. In 1892, August 4th, there was a murder in Fall river the Borden’s house. Lizzie Borden reported that her dad, Andrew Borden, and stepmother was murdered. Lizzie was the one that reported this crime to the police;however, she seems to be suspicious. All her reactions, dialogue, and all other details points at Lizzie as the murderer. To try to not be identified as the murderer, Lizzie tries to refute but sometimes it makes her more conflicted. The police were also concerned if Lizzie really murdered her family members. Personally, I really enjoyed the book on how the author slowly writes down more and more details that seems like hints to the reader telling that Lizzie is the reader. She also wrote the reverses in the book to make it more interesting.
Research Page
On day 11, we learned when and how to research outside of the text. This is important and helped me a lot because through research I had a deeper understanding of the book. I understood why the author wrote specific scenes or dialogue. Through research I also learned that the murder is also actually more complicated than what we think it is and this influenced me a little bit on my thoughts on the book.
Connections
On day 10, we learned to make connections to recent pages. At first when I read to a part, I feel weird because I do not understand why did the author write that. However, when I look back to pages I have read already, I found that when these parts are connected, it creates another point that makes Lizzie more suspicious.
Theme page
Throughout the book, I did not find much themes, but this stood out to me. On page 14, the author added a part that shows discrimination and made a connection to the society at that time. I wanted to share this page because I also made connections with it when I was learning about researching.
Central idea
On day 3, we wrote some central ideas. One of it I wrote was Lizzie’s conflicted personality and feelings creates suspicion. I want to share this page because I think this idea is really important and can always see it throughout the book. Writing all details and page numbers also helped me review and remember some important parts.
Thank you for reading my blog, hope you read the book!
