Annie’s Journal

During the early stages of the revolution, my character Annie is a member of the wealthy families who are supplied by Diaz- worst autocratic president- for 27 years while stealing land from indigenous people who work everyday outside in the burning heat of Mexico just for their families to be financially stable. As the Revolution progresses, One day, Annie was looking out her window seeing poor workers and indigenous people begging for a change but getting brutally slaughtered as a response. Annie full of shock, realizes that reality is an ugly place for the poor and realizes her selfishness and unforgivable attitude as an upper class towards Mexican Citizens. Annie starts to question herself on why wealthy families are stealing and from the hardworking poor workers and changes her perspective on the revolution.

At the last stages of the Mexican revolution, several deaths were left in cold blood just to end a bias autocratic president, form equality between the upper and lower classes, or reestablish rules for poor workers and indigenous people. Overviewing this decade long remarkable journey, Annie has some questions on what if she stayed with the wealthy families and what if Pancho Villa was elected president. However, Annie still believes that she has made a successful decision on transforming into a soldadera and standing for the rights of indigenous people and poor workers.

PD4 Blog post

My idea for the phone holder came from the problem that my phone needed a safe, and clean space to be put. My first idea was to make a hole from the pocket to the base of my holder. This made it so that I could charge it efficiently, though it didn’t match the requirement size standard in the DX page. Because of this, I needed to improve and ended up making a 80 mm by 25mm pocket of wood to fit my phone perfectly. The proportions were just right, meaning my phone wouldn’t move violently around.  The base was then crafted into a 110mm by 35mm plank, refining the balanced position. I decided on wood thickness being 5mm. On the outside, I added the apple design, because I wanted to indicate that my phone was made by apple.

Problems that I encountered throughout this process was matching the right sized fingers, as wrong measurements, wrong spacing, or the wrong number of fingers, would cause the remake of the panel. I was then met in a step in which I had to include fingers to my panels, I accidentally added the wrong number to each wood plank which resulted in me remaking/redoing the panel. However, I decided to try the undo button in Fusion, to go back to where I made my mistake. I then made sure I  had the correct/efficient amount of fingers the second time. Through this, I learned to use rectangles, circles, triangles, and tools including mirror, spline, offset, and rectangular and circular patterns, and how to incorporate them into my own design.

My advice for future students is to be patient if your fusion work doesn’t export to light burn. I had a problem where my design was denied, and couldn’t be converted. I showed the teachers and ICT what was happening but they all didn’t have a solution, which delayed my work for 2 days. Fortunately, I decided to continuously restart my computer. I was then able to export my fusion work to light burn and was able to finish my laser cutting. If I could go back and do the class over, I would go for mastery, though I got a meeting because the sides of my base were popped out. I regret this, as I would have definitely made sure this error didn’t occur if I did product design a second time. One thing I would definitely change about the course would be the lack of 3D printing. We got to do modeling and even laser cutting, but never printed our models. I think 3D printing would be interesting, as it offers a unique experience to middle schoolers that uses the entire design lab more.

Animal chair!

Here is a cool photo of my cool animal chair!

1.  My biggest success was to finish my animal chair, it was very nervous at the start since it was first time for me in my life for the first time! But after, I felt that this was very fun.

2. Skills I learned or developed were to be finding recyclable sources and to be using them. I also found out that I learned or developed to make things very well. For example, making shapes on a cardboard using a scissor, or to be reusing tape!

3. If I did this again, one thing i would do differently is to be way more better at preparing, planning and organizing, since this project started as a back up plan for the arcade thingy, I had no time to prepare and had to do things in a rush every class.

3. Overall, I think this product was successful because in a less amount of time, I was still able to reach my goal of finishing this animal char and I also learned new skills to design things!
