The theme that my chosen 3 images all have is that they all are positive. This corroborates with my statement of intent which is to create photographs that show lack of opportunity. These 3 photographs reflect my statement of intent but in a more positive way. instead of showing a lack of opportunity I tried to show potential and opportunity.  This is shown in all 3 of my photographs because my dad is staged in a way that shows relaxation and ease. He looks unconcerned and happy.

In this photograph I made my dad lie down with his hands around his head. This was meant to show that he was relaxed. I also made him smile and look up into the ceiling to show the audience that he has something to look foreward too. He is not staring at the ground, but instead smiling and looking hopefully at the sky as if he’s excited about whats to come in his life. I set the iso of my camera to a lower number to create a calm and cozy atmosphere. The lighting and his checkered red jacket helped enforce the image that my dad is relaxing and does not have care in the world . the color scheme in the photograph is warm because only light shades of red and orange are featured in the photographs. I angled the light to hit my dads face from the left for a chance for the audience to infer on what beyond the photograph. My hope was that they would think of a campfire which symbolises good times, which reinforces the idea that my dad has not a care in the world. I took a photograph from a longer distance away so that I would not catch the smile lines and wrinkles on my dads face. This was so that he would look younger which is associated with having more opportunity and potential.

something that I need to further develop on is the lighting. If I made the photograph lighter I think that it would have been a better photograph. it would have emphasised my dads clothing and and facial expression.

In this photograph I had my sit up and smile at the camera. the smile was meant to be nonchalant as if my dad was with some friends or having a good time somewhere. He looks like he’s staring at a friend or someone he enjoys spending time with. I zoomed out of the photograph in order to try not to capture my dads wrinkles and smile lines. This gives the idea that he is young and has ane ndless amount of potential. Also, the background looks like it has white trees. this is meant to symbolise the growth and prosperity, reenforcing the idea of potential and opportunity. the white of the trees helps the color scheme of the photographs. it matches with the white on my dads jacket so it does not seem out of place. I turned the iso of my photographs down in another attempt to hide my dads wrinkles and smile lines while also expressing features like his smile and nose.

something that I need to further develop on is the lighting. If I made the photograph lighter I think that it would have been a better photograph. it would have emphasised my dads clothing and and facial expression. it would have also allowed the viewer to see my dads happiness clearer, which helps the photograph show opportunity and potential.

In this photograph I posed my dad in a way that I imagined a person deep in thought would pose like. I made my dad stare at the camera as if he was analyzing it, giving the audience the impression that he is intelligent. I took the photograph at an angle at an angle because it made it seem like my dad was staring down at them which reenforced the idea that he was smart. This image is meant to portray someone who has already reached there potential. I angled the light on my dads left side to emphasis his eye. The jacket that he is wearing looks very clean and goes with the color scheme. This is meant to show that my dad is well off and does not need to worry about his basic needs. The light is meant to be a lamp that my dad is using to read a book. that is why he looks so focused and composed. The hand that my dad leans on shows the viewer that he is somewhat bored. also, the light reflects off of his fingers which are now shiny and danty. which is meant to show the viewer, again, that he looks well off and rich.

I think that next time I do this i will focus on the lighting more. I think that if I changed the lighting in all my images they would ahve been more powerful and would have portrayed my theme more effectively. for example, they would have shown my dads facial features and facial expression better. both of those things are principle in portraying my theme.
