Happy

This photograph firs my statement of intent because it reflects the theme of lack of opportunity. I decided to focus on an endless amount of opportunity in this photograph. I showed this by having a positive expression (happy) on my dads face while a warm light reflected off of his face. I decided that I needed a more redish light after I took a few photos in which I just used a phone flashlight. I then decided to use a lamp instead of a flashlight. I also made my dad change out of a grey hoodie because it did not match the color scheme of the photograph. it was too bright and it drew the viewers attention to the shirt instead of my dads facial expression, which was the point of the photograph.

Hope

This photograph fit my statement of intent because it reflects the theme of lack of opportunity, but instead of a lack of opportunity this photograph was meant to show potential and hope, an endless amount of opportunity. I showed this by using the lighting to show a part of my dads face because while I was experimenting on the him I realised that I could capture his facial expressions better if i positioned the light at an angle. I also made my dad change after I realised that his grey shirt did not go with the lighting or the background, nor his skin color.

Sadness

This photograph fits my statement of intent because it reflects the theme of lack of opportunity. This photograph is meant to show the sadness of not having the opportunity to do something. after some experiments with the angle of the photograph I decided that I needed to look down on my mom. this was to evoke pity from the viewer, like they were looking at a beggar. The photographs that I took looking up or at my mom made it seem like was just sad and there was no other reason. I turned down the brightness of the lamp because I did not want to capture my moms full face.  The photographs that I took that were brighter had a more jolly fell to them and they did not portray my theme of lack of opportunity. When I dimmed the lamp and you could not see my moms full face it helped show the theme more.

The composition of the photographs helped push the subject out. the background supported the subject and no props got in the way of the photograph. I wanted my viewers eyes to go straight to the face of my subject. I don’t think that there are any major distractions in each of the photographs. however in the third one with my mom, I think that I should have made her change because her grey shirt draws the viewers attention from her face. I think that I portrayed my intent well and people could see that I was trying to show a lack of opportunity. when people look at my photographs I hope I think they will have a positive feeling when looking at the first 2 photographs, however  I think that they will have a negative feeling when looking at the 3rd photograph.
