This found poem was made from the short story “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl, the sentences/words are taken from pages 2,4 and 6. The story talks about the protagonist Mary Maloney having an external person vs. Person conflict with the antagonist Patrick, who is also her husband. The conflict of the story happens in paragraphs 35 to 49. Patrick told Mary that he was soon going to leave her, when Mary heard the news she was surprised and could not tolerate it, so she smashed Patrick on the head with a frozen lamb leg and killed him. After that, she knew she wasn’t prepared for the consequences, so she tricked the police into destroying the murder weapon. At the beginning of my found poem “I’ll give you money” and “you’re looked after” is the part where Patrick is leaving Mary and what he had said, “Her first instinct” “not to believe any of it” “She couldn’t feel anything” is where Mary could not tolerate what Patrick told her. From “A leg of a lamb to “the noise” is when Mary killed her husband, and “She came out” to “So I’ve killed him” is her reaction to her action. At the last part from “she knew quite well what the penalty would be.” to “Patrick Maloney’s dead” shows that she regretted her choices and included the protagonist and antagonist’s names. The design in the background of the found poem is a dead man and a leg of a lamb which shows the conflict in the story.
