"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious" - Albert Einstein

Final set street photographer

At first, I was trying to do up close images to show more emotion, but over some time I decided that showing all of a human in motion can purvey much more emotion than one facial expression ever could. So I focused on the feeling of hope and opportunity, and losing that, the bird representing opportunity,  I focused on mostly outlining how bright the birds are and how dark the people outside of their light are, and a lot of motion to show moving through time. Went with black and white to emphasize the lighting and the whiteness, as well as a grain affect because I think it gives it and older look and it looks cooler to me.

Favorite

The subject in this photo is the bird flying to the person holding out their hand. The image is black and white, I think making it black and white gave heavier emphasis on the whiteness of the bird as well as the lighting in the image.  Majority of the image is softer greys and blacks and white but the bird with the dark trees in the background creates harder lighting between the two. I made use of the movement of the bird mid-flight to create a moment where you feel much more immersed into the image, the image supposed to give a sense of hope, you the viewer being the hand and the bird being hope and prosperity.

Least favorite

This one was mostly focused on movement with softer tones again trying to give off a sense of going forwards, but in that I did not get a lot of things that I could have. Not much emotion coming from this one or at least not as much as their could have been. Also lack of the subjects face leaves for less emotion

Explain How your own images link to your chosen artist’s images.
How do they tell a story?

Many of their photos show an overexaggerated face of strong emotion, that of rage or loneliness, same with my own, only in slightly different ways to show it, like a wide shot of a man alone; all of my and his photos are black and white with very heavy lighting and heavy grain.  many of them tell a story through their face, and their clothing, and because of the over-exaggeration you can make a story yourself

Why did you put them in that particular order?

no reason

What are the overall strengths of these images

They provide clear emotions as well as a vintage look, contrasting lighting adds depth to the images as well.

what skills have you developed, and how have you applied them?

I have developed more close-up skills, and editing skills. I have never done black and white photos before for the most part, so it was difficult to find pictures I deemed good enough to make black and white.

How have you developed as a photographer – What did you learn from your previous tasks

I have started editing more and caring more about angles, before I would just try to get thee subject the best I could not thinking about the surrounding space that most of the time took up the majority of the photos.

Something that works well about this/these images is…

Better lighting, It was hard to find actual good lighting, and because the images have no color lighting becomes much more important. Also more animals, animals can have much more interesting expressions that seem harder to identify.

Something I need to develop further is…

My lighting skills, using light more to my advantage could greatly help my photos as well as more close up pictures of people.

What are you looking for in your next set of images?

More close ups of people, asking people for photos, less architecture more people and animals.

What would you do differently next time? How would the photo improve as a result?

Maybe bring a light and or an actual camera, and ask people around.

Top 10 photos

Statement of Intent

I will take Very close up photos using fibinochi spiral  with grainy photos and black and white, trying to use extremley contrasted photos, very heavy lighting, I can achieve this by taking images with light on only from one side, and upping saturation through photoshop as well as the grain, most inspiration is from the movie the lighthouse and Daido Moriyama

Artist

Daido Moriyama, he focuses extremely on heavy lighting and keeping the focus more you one side of the photos, he relies heavily on lighting most of his photos being in black and white, capturing usually and extreme emotion, heavy tones of black, grey and white. Usually overrexaggerated features.

Bruce Gilden

Another photographer using black and whites, but feels more sc ripted, the scenes being very cinematic and not as rapid and sudden as Moriyamas, much more methodical, as well as heavy lighting and heavy shades to show the expressions, most photos of more solomn people, the shadows over there indents on there faces adding emotion and unique storytelling
