The disaster in Triangle Fire “Flesh & Blood so Cheap”

The book “Flesh & Blood so Cheap” is a book that talks about big events happened in first 20th century. Basically about immigrants and culture problems. The author of this book is Albert Marrin, Albert Marrin was born in 1936,  he is a American historian. He made other books like The airman’s war and Victory in the Pacific. Today’s book is this book called Flesh & Blood so Cheap.

p1

This book used an objective view to write the big events of the 20th century. Unlike some books that talks story using subjective view or not telling the truth.  It gave specific evidence like old pictures and quote from people who really been like that before. This book will be interested by people who like Modern History or people who wants to read good books.

The book’s ideas about immigrants workers are about Workers should get equal paid because for some reasons. Even the book talk about other things like Jewish and Yiddish. But mostly talking about the workers that got unequal treats.

One central idea is that Workers in 20th century get bad treats

p2

In 20th century, workers got no safety treats like fire drills. In Triangle fire, they died because of the bosses didn’t added Fire drill,” Fire drills, owners feared, might raise suspicions about their tentions. Besides, time spent on a fire drill took away from work (Marrin 108).”  Also, the bosses are very unrespect to them,”They swear at is and sometimes they do worse–call us names that are not pretty to hear (Marrin 73).” For these reasons, 20th century workers didn’t get equal treats.

This idea lead to another central idea in the book, workers should get good treats.

p3

The book use the central idea of 20th century worker did not get equal paid to reflect on another idea. Worker should get good treats.

p4

In p4, it tells why workers should get good treats. The book is trying to use 20th century workers to reflect on worker should get equal paid. In page 37, it says that: “Only the lucky few had beds of their own. With space so limited, children slept two or three, even four to a bed (Marrin 37).” In page 163 the book wrote that: “That is the lasting lesson of the Triangle fire (Marrin 163).” The lesson of Triangle fire is that preventing fire drills for workers are important. That connect to the central idea of good treats for workers are important. These evidence including others in the post reflect on how workers when they get bad treats. Stories that is shocking by the sight that hint bosses to be good to workers.

Lastly, because of it’s also including nation in the story. If you want to read the book, the these notes would help you (p5).

I think Humanist is a very good philosophy in Middle Ages because it is the oppsite of the Feudalism. In Feudalism, hospital is Church running it and they think letting blood out from human can cure them. This cause many people died with little disease. Feudalism people don’t except new knowledge, their idea are feudal. Humanist help people get rid of feudal ideas and make them wise. I think people should except new knowledge and Humanist is mostly about excepting new knowledge so I agree with Humanist. In life, I always want to try new things because if I know there is new things and I didn’t try it I will feel bad with didn’t try new things. I even have a test of trying to make sure if I’m a Humanist. The answer is that I’m 93.75 Humanist.
