It’s The Cuban Revolution

In the following three journals, my character will be presenting the Cuban Revolution in his perspective. The character’s name is Fernando, and has an older brother named Rodrygo. In their childhood, they lived in poverty where they had to endure the hunger everyday. The start point of Fernando experiencing the events in the Cuban Revolution is due to his shift of job from a peasant to a soldier. There are many changes in Cuba, and Fernando. Fernando once believed any changes in Cuba would make Cuba a better country, but in the end, he doubts his initial notions, and wants no changes. Through my character’s perspective, we can see that “the revolution is a dictatorship of the exploited against the exploiters.”

The Cuban Revolution was a series of rebels against Batista’s government led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. Although they had some experiences of failure, through the rebel victories, the M-26-7 (rebel group created by Fidel and Che) was able to attain their goal to overthrow Batista, and make a new government. There were changes that were successful, such as the health care system, and the education, but some changes had negative effects on Cuba. It was lucid that the change of government was successful, but the dictatorship stayed the same in Cuba, for both Batista and Fidel Castro were dictator themselves.

Homeland or Death, the Cuban Revolution

The Cuban Revolution was led by three young revolutionaries, Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara. Their cause for the revolution was due to Batista’s organization of military coup against the Carlos Prío Socarrás’s government, which came along with substandard governing skills. Although Castro and his M-26-7 group failed the 1953 July 26th rebellion, they ultimately achieved their goal to see Batista abdicating; however, their success led to the brink of nuclear war. Cuba’s betrayal of America and their alliance with the USSR resulted the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Cuban Missile Crisis is an important event in the world, not only for Cuba. Fidel Castro’s decisions almost led to the nuclear war. Was he a great pioneer who led a successful revolution, or was he the worst leader, who almost resulted the annihilation of the world?

Humanist?

What are the elements of being a humanist in the renaissance?

I gave 3/5 for achievements, for achievements are seeking new ideas. Nowadays society is learning what people have discovered in the past days, not seeking new ideas. We are studying old ideas, not the new ideas, but I still support finding new ideas out. What students are doing right now isn’t seeking new ideas, but I support finding new ideas, so I gave 3/5. The humanists’ new ideas contributed in creating beautiful arts in the renaissance.

I totally agree with the secularism. Religion isn’t related to politics at all, but before the renaissance, the church was controlling the politics. Religion is separated from politics; religion is for people who need it, not coercion. In the real society, if we have someone who doesn’t know politics rule the country, the country’s going to have some problems. I agree separating religion from the politics since they are a religion, not a president.

I agree with the individualism. People need to have their own thoughts, not copying other people’s thoughts. Individualism is having trust in themselves, and I thought having self-confident helped me in real life. During football match, self-confident made our team to get better results than not having it. I agree with individualism.

I don’t agree with classical texts. Wanting for new ideas, the humanists searched for classical texts. However, they want new ideas but search the classical texts which aren’t new. There are some cases where they get idea from it and make new ideas of their own, but the people in the renaissance was just copying the Greeks and Romans.

I agree with the idea of education. Education is one important element in our life to be successful. In the renaissance, even peasants were able to educate by real observing. I agree to education since education is needed to be successful just like right now.

To be a humanist, people need to have these elements.

A Leg of Lamb

Introduction

The Found Poem is about Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald DahlThe story is about Mary Maloney, who has a husband, Patrick. Mary kills Patrick because Patrick is leaving her. By killing Patrick, the story shows an external conflict.

Protagonist, Antagonists

Mary is the protagonist in this story. I knew this from this quote: “She knew that there were other policemen in the garden all around the house.” (Dahl paragraph 101). I thought this was a part where it shows that Mary is the protagonist and the detectives are the antagonists, for usually, the main character is the protagonist, and the antagonists are the ones who are trying to stop the protagonist. In this short story, even though Mary’s the one who killed Patrick, she’s the protagonist who is leading the story, and the detectives are the antagonists who are trying to stop her.

Conflict

There’s an external conflict in this story which is Person vs Person. There are some internal conflicts in this story, but I thought this Person vs Person is the most important conflict in this short story. The quotes I chose show the external conflict of the story, Mary Maloney killing Patrick: “She couldn’t feel anything at all”, “A leg of lamb”, “Without any pause”, “She might just as well have hit him”, “I’ve killed him”, “It came out rather peculiar.” These quotes show Mary has killed Patrick, and it’s a very obvious external conflict. The reason I chose the first quote is because I thought it will effectively show how Mary had felt when she heard the harsh news. The second to fourth quotes are the quotes how she had kill him; hitting him using leg of lamb without any hesitation. I thought the last quote shows Mary’s feeling after she killed him. The first and last quote is kind of showing Mary’s internal conflict, and I thought that would be better to show the external conflict very well.

Design

The design is to show the blood prints of Patrick. By using Aaron Kim’s spreading color machine, it helped me to make realistic blood spread out. The black outlines are for you to see clearer the quotes/ words I chose. The most important part of this design is it shows the blood so that it can actually express how it was like in the story.
