Saving the climate

Climate action has been a serious issue, communities around the world are rising, refusing to wait for top-down solutions and taking matters into their own hands. From 1880 to 2012, average global temperature increased by 0.85°C and Global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) has increased by almost 50 per cent since 1990. These were not all the problems that have been caused by climate action, there are still mor problems going on, now all the countries and people have started a revolution on climate action.

From urban tree-planting initiatives then to community-owned renewable energy projects, these community-led climate actions are showing the power of local solutions. In Chicago, for example, the “Advocates for Urban Agriculture” collective is changing vacant places into a community gardens, not only reducing the city’s carbon footprint but also improving food security and bringing neighbors together (Chicago Tribune, 2022).

Meanwhile, in India villages, women leaders are teaching sustainable farming techniques to farmers, helping them recognize to the impacts of climate change while reducing emissions from traditional agricultural practices (Nature Climate Change, 2021). And in Copenhagen, residents together create a “Climate Neighborhood,” where neighbors collaboratively make energy efficiency upgrades, share electric vehicles, and support local renewable energy projects (C40 Cities, 2019).

These farmers are not only making an actual impact on emissions and resilience, but they are also making communities to be active participants in the fight against climate change. “When people come together at the local level, they realize the immense power they have to shape their own future,” says Jane Doe, the director of a community-based nonprofit in rural Kenya.

However, local climate action groups often face big challenges, from making sure of the fund to find navigating complex regulatory environments. That’s why experts are asking for more support and collaboration between community organizers, local governments, and private sector partners.

“The most effective climate solutions will emerge from the ground up, driven by the creativity and determination of local communities,” says climate policy expert John Smith. “But these groups need access to resources, technical expertise, and policy frameworks that enable them to scale up their efforts” (IPCC, 2022).

By using the power of grassroots initiatives, communities around the world are proving that they have the solutions to climate action. As the pressure begins for urgent action, the time has come to empower local leaders and unlock the transformative potential of community-driven climate action.

John Anderson’s Journal

My name is John Anderson, I am 24 since I first went to America, I have been working for a lot of job and lived in America.

this is my journal:

1764 December

Today is going to be the day for me to arrive British America, I come here because I want to start a new life of mine. I have been alone and have no sense of existence from the people around me, but I have heard that in America life is chill and the land in America is cheap. I decided to start a new life over there, so I boarded a ship and went to America.

1765 Stamp Act

I have earned a lot of money from working on the farm, but today I got news that made me despair. There was a tax set called the stamp act, it is focused on the documents, newspapers, books and advertisements, this affects me a lot, because I borrowed more than half of my money to a friend, James Clinton. He had been buying lots of book from British, but now since of the tax people stopped buying British book from British, so he can’t sell out the books. I can’t get back my money, I had a huge lost on my money, I was planning that I can buy a land of my own if we succeed, but now I have to start over in order to buy a land.

1770 Boston Massacre

On March 1770, it was extremely loud outside, I peeked out the window, just as I looked out, I heard a gunshot sound. I got scared and fell off from my bed, I quickly hid behind my bed and held my breath. I could feel my heart beating quickly, I thought I might die, hopefully the sound stops, my heart was still beating. I was curious about what happened, so I looked out again, I could see from where I was about 5 people on the ground, and it seemed like they were out of breath. I walked out and saw that there were a lot of people injured, suddenly I saw a familiar person. I walked up quickly and saw that the person was James, all the sudden I felt like my brain stopped working and fell down on the ground. When I opened my eyes again, I was back to my home.

1773 Tea Party/Boston Tea Party

The British has held out a new law we called it tea act, people stop buying British tea, I was overjoyed with this news, because my boss had given my payment in to tea and gave me 1 ton of tea. I decide to open a store and sell these tea out, because for now everyone is dumping the British tea, so people start buying American tea in a very expensive price. After a month I sold most of the teas out, I earned a lot of money, this helped me to earn back the money I lost.

1774 Coercive Act

In March 1774, I received a bad news from the newspaper, there is 4 laws passed by British. I looked at these laws and noticed that these laws were for to sanction American, this somehow effect the patriots, I kept looking through my emotion is getting worse as I read through. Suddenly, I closed and threw the newspaper away. The new laws are so strict that I make me thought as if I am a prisoner. The first law held out is that closing the trade of all the harbor at Boston, this effect me a lot for my job, because that I was now at Boston and doing jobs about trading. The other two laws are about the government, it doesn’t effect me a lot , but I still felt angry from those strict laws. Finally, the last one this one is the one that make me the maddest, it says that the colonists must allow British soldier to stay and live in their home. I felt furious and I tried to solve the problem, but as a peasant my power is not enough.

1774 Continental Congress

I finally found a way to solve the problem. The 1774 Continental Congress was a gathering of colonial delegates in Philadelphia, I went to there it was a response to British policies, particularly the Coercive Acts. The congress drafted the Declaration and Resolves, expressing grievances against British actions and affirming colonial rights. It called for economic boycotts through the Continental Association and endorsed the Suffolk Resolves. The congress sought a peaceful resolution by petitioning King George III with the Olive Branch Petition. The 1774 Continental Congress marked a pivotal moment of colonial unity and resistance, laying the groundwork for the subsequent steps towards American independence. We now are somehow half step out of the British control.

1775 Battle at Lexington Green

Finally, us which is the patriots have started the Lexington Battle Green, also known as Lexington Common, the historic town common of Lexington, Massachusetts, United States. It was at this site that the opening shots of the Battles of Lexington and Concord were fired on April 19, 1775, starting the American Revolutionary War. This is the plan made out by us- the continental congress people. Now I hope for independence cause of the British’s act, for me I am now somehow a sub leader during this period. I believe that we can get back the independence from the British!

1775 The second Continental Congress

The Second Continental Congress had been held but for now I am tired of these events, so I quit them. This time it was mainly is a pivotal assembly during the American Revolution. It served as the de facto government for the American colonies and played a crucial role in shaping the course of the war. The congress authorized the creation of the Continental Army, appointed George Washington as its commander-in-chief, and issued the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It also managed foreign relations, coordinated military efforts, and governed the colonies until the establishment of the Articles of Confederation in 1781. The Second Continental Congress laid the foundation for the independent United States of America.

1776 the Common Sense/ Declaration of Independence

The American had been published the Common Sense in 1776, Common Sense challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. The plain language that Paine used spoke to the common people of America and was the first work to openly ask for independence from Great Britain. Finally, after two months of waiting the declaration of Independence had come. The Declaration of Independence was a monumental document adopted by the Second Continental Congress, proclaiming the thirteen American colonies as independent states. It expressed the colonists’ grievances against British tyranny, asserted the natural rights of individuals, and established the principles of self-governance and popular sovereignty. The Declaration of Independence remains a symbol of freedom and human rights, serving as a cornerstone of American democracy.

1783 The Treaty of Paris

The treaty marked the end of the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the United States, as well as negotiations with other parties involved in the conflict. It was signed on September 3, 1783. The treaty recognized the independence of the United States and established its boundaries. The British acknowledged the sovereignty of the United States and agreed to withdraw their troops from American territories. The treaty also granted fishing rights to the United States off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The war is finally done, I now own my own land and live with my friends, now my dream is done, my effort wasn’t wasted, we have now the independence.

I chose the “Lather and Nothing Else” by Hernando Téllez for my found poem

The conflict in this story is people v.s people, my poem shows people v.s people because I found out the barber is murdering someone.
