"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious" - Albert Einstein

Martha Marta Martins & Johnny sins

This is the journal that my character wrote during the American Revolution. She was only 16 when her parents made the decision to move to America. They wanted to give her a better life. While on the ship, she met a guy who was around her age, and they became good friends after. Coincidentally, their parents knew each other, and wanted to arrange their marrige.

From my perspective, the American Revolution brought about considerable changes, yet some facets persisted. The colonies triumphed in attaining independence from British rule, which significantly altered the political landscape of the United States. Nevertheless, certain societal elements endured, such as the ongoing subjugation of African Americans and Native Americans. Additionally, the revolution instigated discussions concerning the role of government, culminating in the formation of a new constitution and the emergence of a nascent nation. Overall, the American Revolution can be regarded as a triumphant progression towards self-rule and democratic governance, although the complete fulfillment of these principles was neither immediate nor comprehensive.

American Revolution

In our Revolution group, we learned about the American Revolution, a historic event that spanned from 1754 to 1783. Throughout our lessons/seminars, we garnered insights into the multifarious occurrences and wars that took place during this tumultuous period. As part of this task, we are required to create a Common Craft video that succinctly summarizes our learnings about the revolution, highlighting four prominent events that played a pivotal role in shaping the course of this significant historical event.

Locker Airpods holder

Part 1

In the beginning, when our class was starting the unit, we were all starting with a phone holder. Everyone started by measuring our phone’s dimensions. We then started with fusion and started playing around with it. Right after that everything went online, so it was harder for most people to get things done without a teachers direct help. And because of that, I didn’t get a lot done during online classes. After we got back to school though, it was a lot easier.

I started with the idea of making simplistic line. I drew some lines on the bigger panel of my container, but soon realized that it wasn’t complex enough. Because of this issue, I decided to make just add flowers to the side, but keep the simplistic line on the main panel. But while I was making this design, I had to rethink the whole project since i thought making a phone holder wasn’t the most practical because I didn’t loose my phone as much as I did my AirPods. But I thought about what if I still needed to put my phone down. So my solution to this issue was to make it as wide as my phone, but low enough that I could take my AirPods out of the case as well.

When I was deciding how I was going to put it in my locker, I wasn’t that fond of putting a magnet to stick it onto my locker. I thought that would somehow affect how my phone would perform. So I came by the idea of hanging my holder onto my locker. I didn’t like the idea of normal rope/string or it might move too much. So I picked up the idea of using metal wire to keep it hung on my locker. But for the metal wire, I had to have at least 2 holes that the wire would hang onto. So I had to needed to move the flower down so I could have a hole in the center without it being too small.

Part 2

Before this class, I have had design classes before. But in my old design class we used a different software that was much easier to use than fusion. I struggled with fusion since it has so many functions that had to have some getting used to. At first I had no idea how to use fusion, and kind of just went with it. But after asking for help from teachers/classmates and videos that were provided for us on DX, I somewhat got the hang of it.

In the start, I thought we had to trace the panels(when we were actually supposed to download it from maker-case and upload it onto fusion), but that didn’t line up right. Then I had to do it over and over again since sometimes I would get the dimensions off, or I wasn’t quite sure about how it looked. I also had an issue where I didn’t have it on one sketch, I had it on multiple sketches which made it very difficult to put all together. I had to ask for another teachers help for it to all get into one sketch. It would be terribly slow to edit when it was all in one sketch. I would have to wait multiple minutes just for it to load.  There was another issue I had where Lightburn wouldn’t work properly since I downloaded it before it’s update. It wouldn’t allow us to add in the file, and I had to go through a complicated process to get it to work.

However with all of the issues I faced, I still found it really cool how we could design whatever we wanted with the tools of fusion. The curve line tool was especially useful for lines that had to be rounded. It was fun to play around with, and when I finally got the hang of it, it got a lot easier to use.

Part 3

In conclusion I think I feel like if I focused a little more during online learning, I could’ve had better results for this project. I think the most challenging part of this project was having to catch up with what I was behind on while trying to make the AirPods holder as good as I could. If I was to go back to the beginning of the class, I would pay more attention to what should have been done more properly, rather than procrastinating during online learning and trying to catch up, while doing a decent job. For those people who are taking design the second semester that you try to stay as much on task as you possibly can, cause if you are a little behind, it could be hard to get back on track. When I showed my mom the project, she said that it looked so easy and that she could do it in less than 30 minutes. But the thing with this project is that it looks easier than it actually is. That’s what could make it so difficult for some to stay on task, since they think that it could be easy to finish, so they might leave it until it’s too late. And I suggest that you start from the beginning knowing that, so you don’t leave it untouched until you need to finish it. I think what I would change about the course is (of course not anyones fault, and can’t be guaranteed prevented) that don’t go online. E-Learning is especially hard on students since we don’t have direct guidance over what we are doing, and can get off track easily. That is why so many of people still haven’t finished it after the first semester. I think overall, the class was great and we learned a lot from it.

(As I’m writing this I don’t have my prototype or my final prodduct)

Am I a Humanist?

Am I a humanist? Infographic by Weijia Sheng

I think I am 82% a humanist because I agree with most of the topics they believed in were reasonable. I think the main reason I think I could be a humanist because I’m not religious, so I think it’s more fair to people that were under the pressure of the churches. I also think individualism is important is because you can’t judge someone by their families, or social status.

Sushi clippers

Sushi Clippers

Me and my partner both agreed that a food that is difficult to eat was sushi. In our past experience, we realized that if the quality of the sushi was not stable enough, it would tend to fall apart a lot easier. Since we wanted something that was easy to use, practical, and easy to control. We thought that making something similar to chopsticks could work, but they needed to have more stability. Therefore we thought about how clippers work, and that those have more stability than chopsticks, but are still easy to fall off.  So instead of making normal clippers and chopsticks, we decided to add more solidity. For this reason, we decided add edges to the clippers, so it holds the sushi all together.

Feedback from peers/adults:

-How do you eat the sushi when its on the clip?

-I like the idea of the sushi clippers because other people had similar problems, but yours clipped under, not on top of the sushi.

-I like how you drew 3D

-How do you grab it?

-Could it possibly be made of different materials?

When me and my partner first got back our feedback, we also asked the teacher for advice. He said that maybe it could be made from different materials and how it could be picked up easier. We realized that there were some things that could have been improved in our design. We noticed that our design wasn’t the most practical, and might be hard to use since it was just straight edges. So we had to think about solutions to help grip the sushi better. Another issues was we thought the metal might have been too slippery for the sushi to stay on the clipper, so we had to think of a way to fix that.

We used the first feedback we got, which was how to make the grip on the sushi clipper better, to make our first improved version. Which was the “Sushi clippers with teeth”. It was the same as the first design but with teeth added. We did this because a lot of cooking tools have this feature. They use the teeth to help grip the food with more stability. For our second feedback, we had to think how we would improve it might slip off the clipper. We took the last design of the sushi clippers with teeth, but the metal was wrapped in silicone. We chose to do this because since the clippers could also be used with other foods, so if the food was too hot, the silicone would help a lot.

leaving with a leg of lamb

The found poem above was from paragraph 5-45 of the text “Lamb to the slaughter” by Roald Dahl. The woman in the story was the antagonist, even though she’s the one narrating the story; and the husband is the protagonist. The reason the woman is the antagonist, in my opinion, is because she was the one that killed the husband (which usually a protagonist wouldn’t do). The main character, or the narrator, doesn’t have to be the protagonist.

The main conflict in this found poem is person to person. This can be seen from when the husband said he is leaving her. As a result of him saying this, the woman reacted badly towards this, slammed onto the husband’s head with a leg of lamb, killing him.

The reason I covered everything in black (other than the poem) is because I thought this matched the vibe the poem was giving off. It reminds me of darkness and horror.
