The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden & the Trial of the Century

Lizzie Borden took an ax,
Gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden & the Trial of the Century》by is about an engaging moment-by-moment narrative of one of the most bizarre murders and trials in American history.  This story narrates the entire process of the case from an objective perspective. Before the truth was revealed, people’s speculations and biases followed the investigation of the entire case. The flaws of human nature were hidden behind the crime scene.  In this circumstance, one person rises to the top of the list of suspects: Lizzie Borden. Did Lizzie Borden kill her parents? And if not, who did?

The very first page I made in this unit of book club was my Notebook Cover, and I also drew an overview or review at the bottom of the page as the last thing I wrote for this unit. I included this to introduce the book I’m reading and also what progress have I made throughout this unit.

The first central idea that I came up with when I just started to read this book: “Every crime scene will leave evidence behind.”  See my ideas here:

This is the second central that I came up with while reading this book: “People like to make assumptions and judgments before knowing the truth.” Me and my groupmates thought of this together because we realized that there aren’t many straightforward central ideas.

The theme that I came up with in this lesson was “You should always maintain clear-eye judgment, and don’t let bias or prejudice rule.” We made connections between the theme and evidence from the book to come up with a resolution. It was challenging for me to write a different resolution from my groupmate using the same theme and similar evidence sources. But I fortunately overcame it and finished my task.

I learned how to identify the two types of texts: informational and narrative texts in the book, which helped me really deep dive into the story and gain further understanding. It also helps me reorganize my notes by asking me to respond to their requirements for this lesson.

This is all I have for my post and if you are interested in this event, check out The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden & the Trial of the Century! Thank you.

My Pet Chair Project

My big success was able to design the project (chair) and make it into a real one.

One thing I’d like to change is the color of the chair.

If I did this again, one thing I would do differently is to change the style of it to let it be more sturdy.
