American Revolution Journal

Main character of my journal is John. He is a rich merchant from Boston, he was in a possibility of losing his business after tea act passed by British Parliament, and he decides to join The Sons of Liberty and fight against British. After more intolerable actions by British, he joins the American Continental Army and witness the surrender in Yorktown and celebrate the independence of America.

Was American Revolution worth it?

American Revolution was worth it
There was more political powers in hand of ordinary citizens, they had the authority to vote for the leader of America, and they could approve the laws and representative.

Since America was no longer under the rule of Great Britain Monarchy , America was governed by democratic system, common citizens had a say in the state governance, and they were the ones deciding who was the representative of America, George Washington was elected for first president of America.

White, rich men were in charge. After America got freedom, the people in charge did not change. The reason why the white, rich men were in favor of independence was because they wanted even more power.

Rights of many people remained the same. Rights of women, slaves, Native Americans. The rights of these people remained the same for many years.

What was the main causes of the American Revolution and was it worth it

The American Revolution was movement of 13 American colonists that happened from 1763 ,The end of Seven Year’s war ,to 1782, the Treaty of Paris to be independent from Great Britain.  The main causes of The American Revolution were the intolerable actions, the Townshend Act, and the Stamp Act passed by the British. Intolerable actions were a series of unfair laws passed by British Parliaments to manage rebellion by American colonies, The Townshend act imported tax on glass, paint, and tea for tougher enforcement to British colonies, and the stamp act required colonies to pay tax on stamps that goes on legal documents. The American Revolution brought significant changes to America, After the American revolution, there were political powers in the hands of ordinary men, and there was an elected president instead of a monarchy, but some things remained the same, such as the rights of slaves, women, and native Americans, with white, rich men being in charge. The America Revolution was worth it as it gave most Americans more freedom and rights.

The 57 Bus

The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater is about a true story of two teenagers with different backgrounds with different race and how one thoughtless action changed their lives. The story is told about a white teenager Sasha who identifies herself as agender, and black teenager Richard . The story tells about the incident that happened in Oakland, California, 57 bus in November, 2013.  Richard sets Sasha on fire because peer pressure from his friends. Sasha is injured with serious burn and Richard is in court for his crime. The book shows the issue of discrimination and social justice and forgiveness for central idea

The first central idea i discovered in the book was forgiveness is needed for rehabilitation and change.

As I read further there was examples of evidence of Richard’s growth and rehabilitation. While analyzing descriptive parts, In one of the passage, it described about the guilt and feeling of regret Richard felt and how he wanted Sasha to forgive him. Also, after the speech from Sasha’s family that says to forgive him, the word such as ‘exceptionally well..’ describes the rehabilitation and attitude to change  from Richard.

In the research lesson we had to research about the parts that were still unsure. i researched about restorative justice. Even though the family did not use restorative justice, both of the families had similar beliefs as restorative justice, restorative justices focuses on repair and root causes of crime instead of punishment. Sasha’s family did not want heavy punishments to Richard instead they wanted rehabilitation instead of punishment. which also goes with restorative justice. I could see Restorative elements had helped Richard to recover from the past actions

Later in lesson 7 we had to make connection in the book. There was parts that connected to the idea of forgiveness. The central idea was forgiveness is needed for rehabilitation and change. the connected quotes showed the central idea of forgiveness is needed for rehabilitation. One way that Sasha’s famiy showed forgiveness is  their empathy ,despite the harm that Richard gave to Sasha. And Sasha’s family wanted Richard to gain more empathy instead of gaining more hate in the future. This also helped Richard for his rehabilitation for 5 years and ending his journey that started on November 2013 and start his new journey.

My self as a Humanist

Humanism

Renaissance was a rebirth of art and knowledge from the dark ages, and humanism was  one of philosophical beliefs from renaissance .  I would rate myself 85% humanist because I strongly agree to most of the principles and values with humanism. For example, secularism, the value of secularism goes against the thinking of feudalism which I does not agree with. Feudalism believed in church and god, they encouraged everyone to live afterlife not present life. However I believe living in present life is most important, and improving itself with questioning of world and passion of education. This goes with the belief of humanism, as being the belief that separated people from religion.

App Design- Work in Progress

This is my Process Journal for the creation of the app I am making for my client. This will be updated each class.

Which will it be?

The found poem i wrote was created based on story “Lather and Nothing Else” by Hernando Tellez. In the story, the main character ( the barber) is a revolutionary when Columbia was facing political conflict (La Vioencia), and he has to cut his enemy’s beard which is a hunter of revolutionary, Captain Torre. The barber faces the problem of having to give service to him. during the cut, the barber is aware about the awful things by Captain Torre and struggles to make a decision of using his razor blade to  do his own job and be a murderer. In page 4,  the barber knows that his fate relies on a blade of a razor of being a murderer, the razor bade represents the decision of him.

The reason I drew two different newspapers having different sentence is because it portrays what will happen if the barber kills Captain Torres. “The murderer,” , “The avengers”.  At the beginning of the story the barber is eager to pull the razor and kill the Captain but soon he’s faced with moral dilemma. (Inner conflict person vs person).  The ‘murderer’ news paper shows the barber’s desire for revenge .

cardboard Arcade Design.

– My Biggest success was the pinball pulling part worked well. It could push the ball up. also, it had spaces that we could put some sticks. So that it would add more fun. And also, another success is that after rolling to the number part, it successfully went to long slide and went back to pulling part again.

-One concern that was shared with me was what if the pulling part doesn’t work? At first, because the size of the pulling part was so big, the pulling part could not go in, it could not push too. However, after making  the pulling part smaller, it successfully could pull,  it could go in, and also it was faster

-If I did this again, one thing I would do differently is I would make it bigger. ( Me and my partner figured out that the size was too small.

  • Overall, I think this product was successful because the pulling part went well and it worked the way we wanted.
