Identity-Present

When I do this picture, I think about how I can connect my hobby to my favorite animation. So, I put the movement of the volleyball with the character of the animation; when showing the picture to the viewer, it can tell them about my hobby and also make them happy.

Identity-Set 1

Photographer: David Hockney

Analyze his photo

These images use a collage technique, breaking the subjects into multiple pieces. This technique emphasizes movement and emotion, presenting a lively view of the subjects rather than a static one. Each image captures some kind of the same expressions and movements of the subjects, which makes the different related to each other to make a whole picture. The use of contrasting backgrounds highlights the subjects. The overlapping images create a sense of depth, making viewers engage with the artwork on multiple stages.

Justify my choice

The fragmented style used in the photographs valuably shows movement and emotion, allowing viewers to feel the energy of the skaters and the different expressions of the second subject. By showing different perspectives, the photographer encourages viewers to create their own pictures. This approach helps people connect more deeply with the images and understand the subject matter better.
These images inspire me to experiment with how breaking down visuals can tell more complex stories. I plan to try out some techniques, such as collage Techniques, taking multiple angles and expressions and combining them into one piece. The next one is layering, using transparency and overlapping images to add depth.

Part 2: Critique

My favorite image in the photograph of the photographer

The subject of my photograph is the man who is turning on the ice. The setting of the picture is in an ice ring; I think, according to the clothes that man is wearing, it is in the 80s China. The background of the picture is white, and the outside of the ice ring has a fence that protects people who don’t know how to skate. The character in the picture is a man who wears a blue jacket and sports pants. The man is good at sports and concerned a lot about appearance because his hair was a good look at that time and the clothes he wore had traces of being ironed. He is ice skating on the ice, I like the pose because I also can do that.

STYLE & GENRE

The picture is colored and fragmented; I think the contact is high because the blue clothes make high contact with the white ice at the back of the man.

PHOTOGRAPHIC ATTRIBUTES

My eyes are drawn to the place that is fragmented, the difference of the picture that is fragmented

Lines

We can see some curve lines in the picture. The limbs of the skaters create smooth lines that highlight their graceful movements. And the geometric appears in the image is divided into rectangular sections, which create straight lines that contrast with the fluid poses of the skaters.

Patterns

The skaters appear in different poses, showing the rhythm of their dance and the fragmented style creates a grid pattern, adding complexity to the image.

Shapes

The bodies of the skaters form natural shapes that suggest movement and balance. We can also see the rectangular section in the picture. Each part of the image is a rectangle, contributing to its overall structure.

Colors

The main colors are shades of blue from the skaters’ outfits, creating a calm atmosphere. That makes the full tone of this picture cold. The dark skates contrast with the lighter background, adding depth to the image.

MEANING /INTENT

This picture makes me feel energetic because I used to ice skate too, so I imagine the feeling when I skate on the ice that makes me feel relaxed and energetic. The light has a cold tone light that makes me feel like inside the ice ring is cold, but let me remember the happy time I spent in the ice ring. The man makes me feel free because at least when he stands on the ice, he feels free, and all of the bad things in his head go away. And all of those things added together make me feel free, energetic, and relaxed.

I think the photographer wants us to see more details when we do a movement in ice skating because ice skating is a beautiful sport. I want the picture to give us energetic feelings. I will try to make my movement more professional and add the things I want to take. Maybe it will become energetic.

Identity-Introduction To Portraiture

What’s a Portraiture?

Usually, we think a portrait photograph takes pictures of people; it is a genre focused on capturing the likeness, personality, and mood of an individual or group. I think selfies are portraiture. Portraitures should include a person inside, and I think if it has a person inside, it should not have something that can’t be contained inside. This kind of photograph can represent people’s identity without them being present in the picture because due to their photograph style and their tone, we can know what’s their identity and personality like; it doesn’t need to be a single picture because a person’s identity can’t be express by a single picture their feelings change so their style of photograph change so if you want to know a person’s identity you need to watch them for a long time.
