The Cuban Revolution and its Effects

When the people are discontent, a change is bound to take place, whether by force or negotiation, although it is typically the former. In the 1950s, Fidel Castro led the revolutionary Movement-July-26th rebels in overthrowing the Cuban dictator, Fulgencio Batista. He had done the impossible; the rebels had mainly conducted guerilla warfare, as they had possessed an obvious shortage of fighters compared to the military, yet it had been enough to seize all of Cuba.

Below is a brief explanation on the revolutionary process and its significance post-revolution.

The Borden Murders – A Perfect Example of the Media’s Unreliability

The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden and the Trial of the Century by Sarah Miller presents a detailed telling of the mind-boggling true story of a double murder which took place in the August of 1892. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Borden had found her father and stepmother brutally murdered in their own home. Evidence after evidence led the public to believe it was Lizzie Borden who committed such crime, but was that really true?

For the decades to come, the children of Fall River, Massachusetts would recite the rhyme revolved around the notorious incident:

Lizzie Borden took an axe,
Gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

The media pulled attention towards Lizzie Borden for a matter that was not much related to the Borden murders..

What was told about the trials from the newspapers was often biased. Their attitude towards Lizzie Borden changed frequently.

A small statement from Lizzie Borden led to the “trial of the century”.

The prologue of the book, “Lizzie Borden Took an Axe…” includes some details that are worth rereading once you reach the end of the book.

This Barber Was Very Stressed, What Happens Next Is Shocking

I read Lather and Nothing Else by Hernando Téllez for my found poem. As you can see, the barber in the story is facing some intense internal conflict, deciding whether they should kill the war criminal at their shop. Such action could either result in the barber being deemed a hero, or a murderer. My found poem describes this internal conflict. The different color of the thought bubbles were chosen to emphasize contrast between the two conflicting ideas: to kill, or not to kill (also a reference to the blue pill and red pill meme). The stressed custom emoji represents the barber (you can tell they are very stressed).
