The Unbreakable Desire to Survive
The non-fiction book, Unbroken, written by Laura Hillenbrand, interprets that when you are going through difficult times you need the power of resilience to overcome challenges. The book takes you through the journey of, Olympian, Louis Zamperini, who survived 47 days in a raft in the middle of the ocean and more than 2 and a half years of brutal POW camp. During those rough times, Louis never lost hope. This book taught me that even during difficult times keep going and never give up.
‘This page of my notebook shows the protagonist, Louie’s early life. Growing up, he was a naughty child, but once he left home and returned, he became more determined than ever. During that time when he was determined to run, his relationship with his brother, Pete, grew stronger.
On this page of my notebook I wrote the central idea of the book, to overcome challenges, your going to face obstacles. This is a central idea in the book that is used throughout.
This page in my notebook lets me understand how the description of one paragraph can allow me to understand the book so much more. The words show the brutal and harsh living conditions that the Louie had to go through during his time in the POW camps.
The last page in my notebook is one of the theme for the book, Unbroken. When faced with challenges, you need the power of resilience in order to overcome challenges. On page 112 Louie demonstrated that when he was trapped in the ocean hungry and dehydrated and surrounded with sharks he used the power of resilience to keep going.
