The found poem above was taken from page 4 of the short story “The Bass the River and Sheila Mant” by J.D. Wetherell. It shows man versus self conflict between “I”, the protagonist, and the antagonist the bass, and Sheila Mant. The climax of the story is the conflict between I”, he fights between choosing whether to impress the girl or catch the bass. In the story “I” is portrayed as a boy conflicting with his emotions, between his desire for fishing and impressing Sheila. Sheila washing in a creamy glow. I could see the shape of her figure, the way her hair curled down. These things were a tug on my heart. Behind me the strain of the bass, was another tug on my heart. This shows his feeling during that situation. Surely, he will make the best decision of whether to impress the girl or catch the fish of his dreams, a bass, and not regret his choice afterward.
