“Lather and Nothing Else” By Hernando Tellez shows an internal conflict of the protagonist struggling with himself on whether to be a murderer of Captain Torres, the antagonist of the story, or just doing his job and treating Captain Torres like a normal customer, the theme reflects on human’s struggle of making decision, just as what Torres said, “But it’s not easy to kill.” For analysis, check (https://owlcation.com/humanities/Lather-and-Nothing-Else-Hernando-Tellez-Meaning-Themes-Summary#%22Lather%20and%20Nothing%20Else%22%20Summary). For a short summary, check (https://www.supersummary.com/lather-and-nothing-else/summary/). In my found poem, it says “I was secretly a revolutionary, I was a conscientious barber.” The quote shows the controversy between his identity of a revolutionary and a barber, he is struggling on whether to do his job or be loyal to the revolutionary, killing Captain Torres. After Captain Torres shaved his beard, the protagonist states that he looked three years younger, just like giving him a new chance, which is what a priest do, they represent God and gives chances to people to atone for their sins. I decided to draw a razor on my found poem. Because the razor symbolizes the internal conflict inside the character, with the razor in his hands, he could use the razor to kill Captain Torres easily or shave the beard for Captain Torres. The razor in the story represents his two conflicting identity, a barber, and a revolutionary.
