25 years under dictatorship, finally a new leader, but has not changed

Hector, who lived a turbulent life, was born right before the miserable period in Cuba in 1928. Unlike other peasants and workers, his father owned a sugarcane farm in the Eastern part of Cuba. So, he lived a normal life. But when he was 5 years old, he faced an overwhelming problem, which was the coup of Batista. He witnesses everything that happened for 26 years.

The Cuban Revolution, the bloody, traumatizing revolution, was successful. However, the result of the revolution was not really positive. After the victory of M-26-7, Castro began seizing every power in that very year. Nevertheless, Castro’s actions after gaining power were not really for us Cubans and seemed to be only for himself. Overthrowing Batista allowed Castro to be welcomed by the Cubans who were tired of Batista’s dictatorship. But after time, Castro became more and more like Batista. Even though the revolution was successful, the results that it brought was not really superior.

Unveiling The Intricate Cuban Revolution

You may have heard about the Cuban Revolution but may not be sure what happened. The Cuban Revolution is not as well-known as other revolutions, but it had a massive impact on Latin American countries. All of these started in 1940 when Batista took over the power of the Cuban government. Times elapsed, but nothing had changed because of Batita’s dictatorship. So the young Castro, who had dissension to Batista’s leadership, had to tuck up his sleeve. In 1959, Castro’s effort finally paid off. But was it worth it? You will find out in our common craft video unveiling the Cuban Revolution.

The disastrous story of the boys

“All Thirteen” is a book of literary non-fiction that recounts the incident in which the boys and Coach Ek get trapped in a cave. It is a really well-written book that describes every small detail. The book highlights the significance of teamwork and leadership. It also shows the dignity of Coach Ek who contributed a lot to the boys’ survival. Here are some central ideas and themes to help you gain a deeper understanding of this book: “Effective leadership is crucial in such a challenging situation”, “The calm attitude of Coach Ek gave the boys more chance to survive”, “Collaboration is one of the most important substances in surviving a disaster”.

This is the notebook page from D.4, and it is all about Narrative+Information. At first, I had difficulties understanding this concept, but after I re-wrote my note, it seemed like I was getting there. I wrote some central ideas and supporting details from my book and connected them with information.

As I read through my book, the story showed more and more conflicts between people and nature. D.5 shows how I explained the conflict and the result which is effect in my book All Thirteen. There were varieties of conflicts that happened in our book, but the focus on the conflict emphasizes the importance of collaboration and leadership.

This notebook page from D.9 is about causes and effects in All Thirteen. As I said in D.5, D.9 recounts the cause and effects in All Thirteen, but D.9 also shows the connection of each conflict and effect. I had some misunderstanding at first, so I re-wrote the page.

For this notebook page, I didn’t really make a connection with my book, but I wrote down some keywords from my book. For the class example, I wrote some hidden figures and supporting details, also conflicts to show my understanding of the story.

So overall, I think my notebook is okay, but still, I have to put more effort into getting better grades. Maybe I would improve my notebook on making connections with my book. I would put more detailed writing to show my understanding more clearly. All Thirteen was okay in my opinion, but some people might say it’s a masterpiece or some might say it’s not interesting. But I suggest you read this book because this book recounts the real story very detailed and spectacularly. Thank you.

What did the HUMANISTS think of HUMANISM?

So, I made this infographic poster to learn more about the Renaissance and humanists. I learned that humanists believe in science and think that science can solve many problems. It’s true that you can solve problems with science, but I think that there are also problems that can’t be solved with science. So I don’t really think that this belief is true, but there are also beliefs that I kind of agree with such as education or equality. After organizing this infographic, I think I am 45% humanist (maybe?).

“Lamb to the Slaughter”

Hi, my name is Siwoo, and I created a found poem. This poem is made with words from Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl.

In the story, Mary Maloney waits for her husband to come home. After her husband comes home, she tries to give him some food to

eat, but her husband refuses. Therefore she argues with him, and Mary Maloney gets frightened because of her husband’s actions.

Finally, her husband tells her why he is refusing and is angry. After Mary Maloney listens to the story that her husband tells, she tries to reject it all.

(rising action)While Maloney tries to become calm again, she prepares her husband’s dinner.

This time, she didn’t listen to her husband, she grabbed a leg of lamb and tried to cook.

(climax)She stops right behind her husband, and she hits her husband with the leg of the lamb.

In the story, page 3 explains the situation of Mary Maloney and her husband fighting.

The conflict type is external (p vs. p), and the protagonist of this story is the 2 police, a detective, and doctors (not the main character), the antagonist is Mary Maloney herself.

My poem shows Mary Maloney herself’s reaction after finding out what had happened to her husband.

The story is very dark and clammy, so I used a red color for the text and a bigger text size.

The illustration of my poem shows the ambiance of the story, it’s clammy, cold, dark, etc., and the skull in the background fully shows the concept of the story.

The way I made tissue case

In product design, I designed a tissue case with the Arsenal logo. I used fusion to make the base of this and used. light burn to print my wood. In fusion, I used several skills to make the base of this. I used trim, rectangular pattern, inserting photos, spline, mirror, etc. I spent many hours in class and school to finish this tissue case. I first stained these pieces of wood and colored them with markers and permanent markers. I glued those wood with wood glue. I also sprayed the acrylic panel with red color. I had some problems while I was making this tissue case. The red color was not bright enough to make this a perfect tissue case. Also, I had to glue the wood several times because the wood did not stick that well. After that, I colored. My skill in fusion increased a lot because of the first class. I was terrible at fusion like offset, rectangular patterns, circular patterns, etc. But now, I can do those skills very quickly. For example, I was struggling with how I could make this rectangular pattern perfectly, but now, I can easily make a rectangular pattern with just a few buttons and clicks. Also, there were some other issues like spraying paint on acrylic panel. The photo below is the result of this project. Thank You!
