Let’s say that you don’t know an answer to a question. You have to go to the library to get a book with that information that you seek to know. You don’t know the location? You have to find a map. Where are you going to get a map? Or are you going to stew in your own curiosity? Before Google was invented in September 1998 September 4th, people all around the world had limited access to information. The book Google it, tells us the story of two fine young men called Seregy Brin and Larry Page: the inventors of Google, and how their school project in Stanford created a search engine that would change the world in terms of entertainment, safety, and simplicity. Want to learn how Google created a ship made of gold, self driving cars, and a plan that could cure human aging? Well then, just Google It!!
For my notebook page, I researched about the mobile app Pokemon Go. The company that created Pokemon Go: Niantic is related to Google, so I just wanted to see how the app structure or idea was similar to Google since it was a major success as well. Pokemon Go was invented on July 6th 2016, and from that moment, its popularity began to skyrocket. The reason for that was Pokemon Go was a game that combined fantasy and reality together. In the game, you can catch Pokemon by going to certain locations. The more time you spend outside, the more benefits you had such as hatching eggs, earning candy, and capturing legendary Pokemon from raids. Instead of looking at their screens and sitting at home all day, players could now go outside and explore new locations and making socializing with people that also played the game along the way. Pokemon Go was a game that focused on the user rather than profit like Google, and now is one of the most popular games in the world.
This page covers the success of Google, and about how it was different from other websites. Google chose to think of benefiting the user rather than making profit, and put themselves in the position of the user. This was set Google apart from the other websites. Websites such as Yahoo and Excite only cared about making profit. Their were advertisement links everywhere, and made it uncomfortable for the user. Now google is one of the most influencial companies in the world, but it was not a piece of cake. They had to borrow money from investors, and stole power from their schools just to sustain the business. However in the end, their innovational thinking, and hard work paid off.
This is the town-hall debate preparation. This just brings up the central idea of the book with some supporting detail and quotes. Our central idea was that innovation and resilience is the key to success. However, during the debate, a participant said that that Larry and Seregy’s success could have been because of their past experiences as well. Taking a look back at the book, and researching more about Larry and Seregy’s childhood, I began to notice that their childhood played an enormous role on how they ran their company. Besides that, there was a quote that I found on page 79 that said “We often talk about a brilliant visionary Steve Jobs was, but there were probably millions of people that were as just as talented as he was. The only difference is that they had limited access to education and didn’t live a place where innovation was the norm”. This quote taught me a valuable lesson that our childhood and past experiences plays a major role in shaping our future, and that we need to provide the future generation with opportunities like Steve Jobs so that each and every one of them has a chance of changing our wolrd.
This cover the cause and effects of the book Google It. Just like the second page, this page focuses on Google’s success with a few quotes and evidence showing how their past experiences also had a huge impact on how they ran their company.
