My side of the story black out poem

My Side of the Story

The blackout poem I created was based on “My Side of the Story” by Adam Bagdasarian. Click the first link to access the original story. I used Canva to create the graphics for my poem.

“My Side of the Story” by Adam Bagdasarian is a short story around the concept of family and justice. The conflicts in the story are both external conflicts between human and human. My poem identifies both conflicts, starting with a short explanation of the first conflict and ending at the falling action of the 2nd conflict. I used paragraph 7 to explain the 1st conflict between Skip and “I”, the protagonist. In which Skip stuck a piece of scotch tape on the main character’s head because he refuses to go play basketball with Skip. Then I selected short phrases and sentences to show the rising action of conflict 2. The protagonist felt that he had been wronged so he decided to go find justice. He ran to his mother that he believed would perform justice.  Then comes the climax of conflict 2. When the protagonist got to his mother’s room he found himself intruding into his father, not mother. I choose some dialogue and descriptions to show the tension of the between the human(protagonist) and human (father) external conflict.  I ended the poem at the end of the falling action of conflict 2. This leaves the readers space to think about the conflicts of the story and come up with their own ending.

The tape graphics show the start of both conflicts, the scotch tape on the protagonist’s head. The crime scene tape shows how the main character believed that he had good evidence to get his brother in trouble by bringing the tape (crime scene) to mom. The gavel and the word justice both represent the theme of the story, justice. Click 2nd link to see poem.
