In this shot, we see a security guard slumped in his chair, a poignant moment that conveys a deep sense of solitude. The lines in the photograph lead our eyes to where the subject gazes, wondering us what he’s thinking about. Perhaps a past memory or dreams yet to unfold. I think the photo can definitely improve by removing its blurriness, but the contrast between his stillness and the vibrant surroundings still paints a vivid picture of his inner world.

This image features a person holding the door open for someone behind them, highlighting a gesture of kindness and a sense of anticipation. I really like the composition, which adheres to the rule of thirds, with the subject positioned in the middle, creating a dynamic balance in the frame. It also follows the technique of the middle line, as the subject’s eye is placed on along a imaginart line, adding stability and balance, as well as creating a sense of division and distance.

This shot captures a hallway that uses strong leading lines to draw our eyes toward the end of the corridor. With its almost symmetrical layout, the image creates a sense of balance and direction as a subject walks through the space. I also enjoyed the play of light and shadows that added a layer of depth, enhancing the feeling of movement. It allows us to wonder what lies at the end of the corridor, evoking a sense of curiosity. If I find a road like this in the Hutongs, I want to try the fishing technique and wait for an interesting subject to pass by.

In this photo, I aimed to capture the gestures of three figures as they stroll together. Their body language and expressions tell a story of friendship and shared moments, which highlight the joy in everyday interactions, a subject in street photography. Each figure brings a unique energy to the frame, showcasing their natural poses and flow of conversation as they engage with one another. One thing I want to improve is that their gestures aren’t that clear, and the photo itself is blurry, so next time I want to aim for a better focus and more dynamic and larger gestures.

This is a practice shot of the decisive moment, as it captures a moment in which a figure jumps on a trampoline. It is an illustration of the “decisive moment” in photography, where a split second can tell a much larger story. I wanted to get the angle slightly lower and capture the feet almost as if I was underneath the ground, but I figured it was more challenging than I thought. Since the person had to keep jumping, I wasn’t able to place the camera where I wanted it to, but I still got a shot of the person in mid-air.

I took this photo to practice creating strong diagonal lines found in the bustling library café. The arrangement of tables and the interaction between two engaged patrons create a sense of movement within the frame. This scene goes beyond merely showcasing the space; it captures the vibrant asepcts of everyday life where people gather, and I think places like this will give me plenty of opportunities to take good shots.
