A book full of action was produced by Laura Hillenbrand. She mainly focuses on the life of Louis Zamperini, who served as a fearless American soldier. During most of his life, Louis faced multiple problems such as war, imprisonment. However, his soul was never broken by them. With his friends, they endured the beatings of the Japanese soldiers, finding a way to live through dark times.
After reading this fantastic book, here are some ideas that I want to share :central idea/ theme pages (2 pages), the informal/formal page (1 page) and also the perspective page. There are also synthesis pages that I have made about a central idea and a theme that I have made.
Central Idea #1: World War II was devastating.
Central Idea #2: During the World War II, the Japanese soldiers were very cruel to the POWs.
How they all connect together:
The theme statement could be connected to these central ideas because the author had organized the book in a way that uses the central ideas shown that is in Louie’s way between life and death. The author places the central ideas as problems for Louie to face. As if he is tested on his determination, trying to endure all the pain that he will have to confront. As the story reveals Louis’s story, the author infers to readers by using Louie as an example facing the World War II influences, and the Japanese’s abusing of him.
Another perspective…
Although we might think that the Japanese are very cruel during the World War II facing the POW’s, it might not be the case for them. The Japanese soldiers were just trying to think for themselves, since every country would consider egoism before everything else. Most soldiers might just be following what their bosses ordered them to do. The bosses, meanwhile, will follow their bosses orders, and so on. Guarding the POWs might just need to be violent, because they might think only violence can cause one to comply. Possibly, the POW’s work is needed in a large amount, perhaps requiring multiple hands to do. All in all, thinking on the Japanese’s perspective, they would believe that violence would increase their strengths, which would benefit them dominating the world.
