Code Girls By Liza Mundy is a story about the backstory of America’s victory over WWII, and how women were an essential part of the communications of their countries, as men went to fight, women piled into Arlington Hall. In a world where women were disrespected, the devastating WWII paved a way for women to finally get chances to work independently and show their intelligence to the world. This story is communicated through the different perspectives of the large amount of women code breakers, showing their feelings and efforts throughout the wartime. This is a great book which acknowledges women’s achievements during a very harsh time in history, I would really recommend it to people who are interested in topics about WWII history, women history, or to people who are just looking for a book to read in their spare time.
During this unit ‘Stranger Than Fiction’ we have also covered the story Hidden Figures, which have helped us get a further understanding of finding valuable evidences and information we need for this assignment.
Notebook Page #1 Central Ideas
This is my second central idea, it shows a more detailed brainstorm of the evidences i provided from the book and reasoning on why i chose these evidences. I have created this brainstorm chart when i got further into the book, i had used some evidences from my first central idea page, which makes this idea connect to the very beginning of this book.

Notebook Page #2 Town Hall Argument
As our group dived further into the unit, we had an debate style assignment called the Town Hall Argument, we prepared a somewhat arguable statement about our book to present to the class, and these notes showed three quotes that supported this statement. These evidences all have a description explaining why this is an appropriate quote to support the statement.

Notebook Page #3 Complex Cause/Effects
Learning about ways to connect a cause to an effect using scenarios we would often see around us was a really efficient way for me to understand how things could lead into something else. During this lesson we found parts in our books that uses the Cause and Effect formula, and my group came up with an incredibly straightforward cause.

Notebook Page #4 Descriptive Passages
While reaching the end of ‘Stranger Than Fiction’ we were finding how the author uses descriptive sentences to add narrative elements and create better surroundings in the readers mind. A descriptive passage describes something, and we got examples from interviewed prisoners, not only from their dialogue, but also from the environment around them.

Thank you for reading this post!
Unfortunately, there were problems with uploading photos, since only one went through, I put the links of the PDFs for the last three notebook pages.
Anyways, I hope this post helped you better understand the things my group and i have worked on in class and what i have done in order to learn about the messages behind my story. I enjoyed this unit very much and I believe that you all will also enjoy reading Code girls.
