The people in the picture aren’t aware that the photo is being taken; that is one of the rules of good street photography. The black-and-white format creates contrasts in light and shadow, adding to the drama and mood of the scene. It appears that the picture was taken at a decisive moment. The pole in the middle shows a separation between the man and the woman.

2

The people are captured in a natural moment, playing in a game of cards without posing for the camera, which emphasizes spontaneity. The photo seems to be a decisive shot. It also shows the natural movement of the locals that showcase  typical in urban environments.

3

The bright colors of the stacked boxes and the background create a vibrant scene that captures the energetic feel of city life. The photo also shows an example of local life in China. That shows you how hard-working the people are. The scene provides a glimpse into local life and commerce, reflecting cultural practices related to delivery and local businesses.

You can see the example of urban life in this photo: the cars, the motorbikes, and the people. The black and white tones give the picture a classic feel, drawing focus to the subject and boosting the overall mood of the scene. This picture looks as if it is telling the story about the man’s life.

 5
This picture is my favorite out of all the images because the image is showing a man doing his job, but coincidentally it also shows the matching of colors between the man and the boxes, that is creating the effect of Vibrant Colors and Details. The image is very beautiful and shows the meaning of street photography.
 6
The man in the picture seems to be relaxed and has been sitting there for a long time and the photographer used the technique of fishing. The background shows an outdoor area, typical of street photography, that captures everyday life in the city. The image captures the essence of everyday life in an artistic manner, typical of the street photography
 7
This photo shows a man doing his job, The environment suggests a bustling street or market atmosphere, typical of urban settings. The close-up of the worker creates a personal touch, encouraging viewers to feel more connected to the scene and the individual’s experience.

Blog 6 / Statement of Intent

The title of this project is: China and its everyday life

The concept I want to tell with my photographs is: that I want to take pictures of the real culture of China, which includes its people, their actions, and the food. I want my photographs to show a new side of their culture. I would also like to show the story of China in pictures. I would like my audience to look at the pictures in a new preceptive.

I want my audience to feel: that what they see isn’t just a regular photograph but a new way of showing, or even exploring the concept of photography in the photo they see.  I also want the audience to see what I’m seeing. Which means I want them to experience the full beauty that our eyes allow us to see.  I want them to be able to see every smile, every argument, and every beautiful object in sight.

I will get inspiration and develop my ideas by looking for photographs that: feel realistic and have a bigger story behind them, like what my artist’s ( Marie Laigneau ) “decisive moment”. I will get my inspiration from places and people that are showcasing the culture of China. I will also get inspiration from my artist’s photos and try to evolve her technique into my own. I also like and Bruce Gilden’s super close-up, intense portraits, I will try to show the super close up of average people doing their job, resting, or just admiring the culture around that. All that will be possible if I practice on my skills and find a way to take pictures of people that make them look calm and also show culture.

Street Focus 55: Street Tips with Marie Laigneau – This Week ...Marie Laigneau is a famous photographer who is known for her focus on street photography that authentically captures everyday life. She was known for her ability to capture the essence of urban life. Her work focuses on candid moments, highlighting the interactions and emotions of people in their everyday environments. She mainly worked and created this kind of photo’s She had a saying which went like this: “Candid expressions can tell a story and convey a specific emotion”

Candid Moments often captures spontaneous moments that reveal the emotions and interactions of people in urban settings.

Vibrant Colors and Textures. She uses rich colors and textures to enhance the visual interest of her images, adding depth to the scenes she captures.

Dynamic Composition, Laigneau pays attention to composition, using elements of the environment to frame her subjects and create balanced, intriguing images.

The reason I am mentioning these topics is that when I want to take pictures of street photography, I want to focus on these specific topics. Her photos gave me a new perspective on taking photos.

One of her best photos was

What is the purpose of street photography? — dreams of a cityThis photo shows the beauty of street photography  Storytelling in street photography: Disrupting the harmony — dreams of a city This photo shows a mysterious side to street photography

In short, Marie Laigneau is an amazing photographer, and she reshaped the idea of street photography and helped us take our level of photography to the next level. She is one of the most remarkable photographers in her time. I aim to take pictures that match her concept and the idea of her photos. Mainly, all her photos are Black and White, but I will be taking both coloured and black and white photos

The concept I will be focusing on is Everyday China. Because while it’s nice to focus on just the people. The movement and the actions of the people show street photography in a better way.

My plan is split into 2 parts. The first is to ask people to take a picture and make it look better. The second is to first take the photo to capture the essence of street photography.

I’m inspired by pictures that show the bigger picture of the action in the image and most importantly the quality and the beauty of the picture itself.

I hope to capture the idea of China and it’s everyday life that includes food, drinks, action, and movement

The pictures below are examples of pictures I am trying to capture.

This image shows Yousef as he attempts to do a rainbow, the image is representing street photography as I was fishing, waiting to capture this shot.

This image showcases 2 people playing basketball and the person wearing a white shirt getting ready to shoot the ball and the person in the beige hoodie watching what is happening. This image is casting the affect of showing people playing this sport

This picture is an example of Get really close – 1 arm’s length. I got very close to Dylan to be able to take this picture. I caught him in his natural environment

This picture showcases Balance and Harmony in the colour of Dylan’s cleats. This picture was perfectly taken due to the proper focus and the lighting in the background

The image showcases a person while he is shooting a basketball into the hoop, and the movement of Youssef jumping while shooting

This image is focusing on the background that Youssef is playing on. It demonstrates the beauty of the area where he is playing football

My six concepts are the following

1: The Decisive Moment:  The main things it relies on are the right moment, and that requires the photographer to be attentive and ready to catch the photo. The photographer should also have an instinct for anticipating the right time to capture the image. An example of a decisive moment in this picture is the first picture of Yousef doing a rainbow

2: fishing technique: The main things you need to focus on for fishing are photographers who use fishing often wait for the right time to take the perfect image, and that requires a lot of patience. Photographers must keenly observe their surroundings, anticipating moments to capture those photos. An example of fishing would be picture number 2.

3: Focus on the Background. By focusing on the background, photographers can capture the setting that gives context to the subject. A good background can contrast with a softer-focused subject or person. For example, Yousef in the last picture demonstrates this idea very clearly. Focusing on the background elements can draw attention to show details that might sometimes be missed.

4: Balance and Harmony, Colour harmony is essential if you are trying to take Harmonic pictures. The lighting is very important, and the focus should be exact. Having a consistent theme or subject matter across the elements in the frame fosters harmony. This could include aspects of urban life, cultural elements, or common human experiences. An example of that is picture 4

5: Get really close – 1 arm’s length. This can showcase the beauty of the environment and the people who live in it. Shooting from close range creates a personal connection between the subject and the viewer. This closeness allows for capturing expressions, emotions, and details that might be missed from afar. By focusing tightly on the subject, the background becomes less important. An example of that is picture 3

6: Avoid distractions, keep an eye on what’s happening in the background and foreground. Look out for distractions like clutter, bright colors, or other unrelated subjects that might pull attention away from your main focus in the photo. Waiting for the right moment can help avoid distractions caused by moving objects or people. Be patient until the scene is clear of any interruptions this also requires the use of “Fishing technique”. An example of that is picture 5, as it has no distractions away from yousef and the skill of Fishing was used

It is a genre of photography that captures everyday life in public places. It involves something resembling a street (an avenue, an alley, or a country lane). Street photography stands out the most among all photos. It involves people, urban areas, and life.  It often focuses on human interactions on human interactions, and it also highlights the raw and unfiltered essence of street. Street photography emphasizes authenticity and often reflects social, cultural, or political themes. The biggest rule of street photography is to ask for permissions. It can also be paintings or drawings on walls. For example, on our 798 trip, the walls were full of graphite and artistic views. The pictures below are examples of Artistic street photography.

The bigger picture

My message after this quarter of photography is to not underestimate the value of a photograph. When you are viewing a photograph, you may not notice the small details, but if you view an object as a resource (tool) rather than just an object, it will enable you to take photos like a great artist. My message to the audience is to feel inspired every time they see one of my photos. Like I was saying, if you look at everything as a tool, then the concept of taking photos will change. I urge you take start looking at basic stuff from a different perspective, and that will really help you to take and inspire better pictures
