The bigger picture

My message after this quarter of photography is to not underestimate the value of a photograph. When you are viewing a photograph, you may not notice the small details, but if you view an object as a resource (tool) rather than just an object, it will enable you to take photos like a great artist. My message to the audience is to feel inspired every time they see one of my photos. Like I was saying, if you look at everything as a tool, then the concept of taking photos will change. I urge you take start looking at basic stuff from a different perspective, and that will really help you to take and inspire better pictures

I think this picture worked as it looks like example 6 on dx. It also has shapes, patterns and lines which are all key factors of abstraction

I tried to use the idea of shadows representing abstraction, I’m not sure if it worked or I did it right but the message is understandable

i tried making focus on the person ( the object) to create the sense of forgetfulness

China World Mall has beautiful sky nights with the skyscrapers that act as a silhouette

This photo may or may not act as an abstraction due to it’s range of abstraction

This picture demonstrates and shows how we can use the night sky for abstraction

Edward Weston | 'shell and rock arrangement' | MutualArt

3 things the photographer might have been interested in capturing in this picture are as follows

1:Contrast Between Textures, The smooth, delicate surface of the shell against the rough, rugged terrain of the surrounding rocks, highlighting the differences in texture and form.

2: Isolation and Focus, The shell stands alone in the expansive landscape, highlighting its beauty and uniqueness against the stark surroundings, creating a sense of solitude and prompting reflection.

3: Natural Patterns and Forms. The movement promoted a strong command of photographic techniques, and Weston’s skills in exposure, lighting, and darkroom work enabled him to produce impactful images that reflected the principles of Straight Photography.

If I was the artist for this piece I think I would name it “The forgotten shell” the reason I would name it that is because from my perspective the shell looks forgotten as if it was laying in a abandoned desert of rocks. and it is the only shell there.

The artist used the advantoges of shapes and lines to create this image

I believe that every picture demonstrates many formal elements in a picture for example the third  picture shows repitition, shape and lines. In short, every picture shows a bigger meaning when you look at it from a different angle. so every element that was named can be found in every picture that was taken

Pictorialism is a photography movement that came about in the late 19th century. It aimed to make photographs feel like words more than images. Pictorialists often played with soft focus, altered negatives, and various printing methods to create images that emphasized beauty and emotion, rather than just capturing reality as it is. Straight photography focused on capturing subjects as they are, without manipulation or artistic effects. The movement often embraced documentary photography, capturing social issues, landscapes, and everyday life. The early 20th century saw a growing interest in modernism and a desire to break from traditional art formsEdward Weston was an American photographer. He has been called one of the most innovative and influential American photographers to have lived. When you look at his work, his inspiration wasn’t just from one thing; each photograph he has taken has a different value, meaning, and inspiration.  The movement to straight photography movement affected Weston in many ways. For example, more focus on detail, Technical mastery (The movement encouraged a mastery of photographic techniques, and Weston’s expertise in exposure, lighting, and darkroom processes allowed him to create striking images that adhered to Straight Photography ideals.), and formal composition ( Straight photographers often had strong compositional techniques. Weston’s use of shape, line, and light in his images demonstrates a keen understanding of composition, influenced by the movement into straight photography, emphasising his formal aesthetics.)

Abstraction is a type of art that could be described with many different meanings. When you talk about abstraction it means a piece of art that can be understood in many different genre’s. There are many different ways of taking abstract photo’s. That’s what makes this category of art different from the rest

Blog Post 1

when one can no longer see any recognizably three-dimensional objects in it. It’s also a type of art that can’t be understood from looking at it, that’s what makes it beautiful and full of meaning
