Humanism

The elements of Renaissance Humanism include education, potential success for everyone, the importance of ancient and modern ideas, individual success is more important than social class and questioning everything. I am partially a humanist because I agree with the ideas of education, the importance of ancient and modern ideas, the success of the individual is more important than your social class, and you should question everything. On the other hand, I disagree with the idea that all people can achieve success because of the difference in opportunities that people have. For example, if a peasant were working as hard as he could he still would not be as successful as a person who was working just as hard but was born into the position of being a Nobel. On the contrary the idea of, the success of the individual is more important than your social class I agree with even though it sounds similar to being able to everyone having the potential to be successful no matter what, because a successful peasant who was able to teach himself how to read and write will be more successful than a Nobel who never learned how to read and write, and failed to maintain their land. I strongly believe in the idea of education. Without education there would be no way to learn how to read, write, think, and question. These are all Important skills that lead to living a life worth living. The importance of ancient and modern ideas is vastly spread across the world today. If you think about life as a ladder and the only way to climb it is through learning. Everyone can climb a latter, but not everyone can add another ring for others to climb. Without ancient ideas, everyone would be starting on the ground having to build their own ladder by discovering new ideas. You should question everything. Not everything is true, and religion uses ideas based on beliefs not facts. Day-to-day life is full of lies and misleading paths. And the only way to get through is to question everything. Overall, I Am not a humanist even though I believe most of their ideas.

The conflict in the story Tuesday of the other June is an internal battle that June has about standing up for herself. My poem is about convincing June to stand up to being bullied by the other June. The first line, “You must be called June” is telling June that it is not okay for the other June to call her, ’fisheyes,’ or ‘buffalo brain.’ ‘The next line you must stand up for yourself’ is referencing the part of the story where she is questioning if she wants to stand up for herself and she said, “if my father’s daddy wanted to know us instead of being glad to forget us — oh, then I would have punched the Other June with a frisky5 heart, I would have grabbed her arm at poolside and bitten her like the dog she had made of me.” This evidence shows how she wants to fight back against June but just can’t find the guts to. The next line you are in a trap symbolizes how June has gotten her into a cycle of bullying and teasing that she could not get out of. The quote,’ My weeks were no longer Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and so on. Tuesday was Awfulday. Wednesday was Badday. (The Tuesday bad feelings were still there.) Thursday was Betterday, and Friday was Safeday. Saturday was Goodday, but Sunday was Toosoonday, and Monday — Monday was nothing but the day before Awfulday.” This piece of evidence shows the constant cycle of bullying that June has pushed her into. The next line Tuesday was Awfulday is another reference to this problem. The next line, ’But it is just you and mom today.’’ Is telling June that she should consult her mom on this issue instead of hiding it from her. The quote,’’ “I’m going to get you, Fish Eyes,” for my heart to slink like a whipped dog down into my stomach. My arms were covered with bruises. When my mother noticed, I made up a story about tripping on the sidewalk.” This quote is very important because she feels ashamed about being bullied, and the person that could help her most is the one person that she is hiding it form. The lines, ’So let that dog out,’ and “and stand up against you training” are referring to the part of this conflict where June feels like June is training her like a dog. The quote,” I didn’t know what to do about her. She was training me like a dog. After a few weeks of this, she only had to look at me, only had to growl, “I’m going to get you, Fish Eyes,” for my heart to slink like a whipped dog down into my stomach. Best shows this conflict because she is letting her bully her to the point where all it takes is one insult to shatter her. This line is also used to give the reader a sense of fight while reading this

Welcome to Your New Blog!

When you blog you create posts and posts are categorised according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you. If you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category.
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This can include text, images, embedded videos from Dragons’ Tube or elsewhere. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
