Stranger than fiction

Trevor Noah, Born A Crimes talks about a hilarious story about Trevor, a colored kids growing up story, from problems to solving them, l made my notebook pages about this book;

Topics and central ideas; location: Trevor noah is born in a place where 90 percent of the population is black, but he is mixed, which is illegal, so everywhere the neighborhoods kids does not want to play with Trevor because of his race, they think he is white. He also did not make friends in his old schools their because everyone is rather white or black, not colored, which made him feel left out.

Family; Trevors family supported him a long way through his life. His mother saved him out of a moving gang car, also sharing hilarious stories about his grandmothers. His father still remains a mystery for us, he rarely goes to visit him and does not write so much. But surely hey definitly helped him get through the cruel world hes been in.

One of my most highlighted pages must be the POV and Voice analysis page. It is also about our audio project we did, about perspectives in Trevor Noahs “Born A Crime” but l think this was more fun because l get to learned a lot of details which i skipped when l was skimming through pages. It made me go back to search for hilarious details which leaded to a totally different story. I wrote quotes such as Trever getting thrown off a bus and how he got in trouble from the gang in the car. I also wanted to write alot more but i did not have room. I also wrote how the neighborhood kids viewed trevor as white not as colored or black, which made trevor feel left out. This part also quotes to the overal book of Trevors life, and with his mothers relationship. I wanted to quote how Trevor got in trouble because of the party he had with his friend Hitler which the people from other cultures felt offended.

I also highlighted the efferent information part of my notebook, it introduces the facts and cultures in detail, which trevor grew up in, it introduces a variable of background information about the how everything happened with the zulu warriors and Apartheid starting, then comes Trevor noah. This is important since it gives us informations about what kind of environment Trevor was born in, and the religion behind it.

I was interested into getting to know Trevors life more, l researched about who he was and what he did in his life, why he became a writer. It cured all of my questions which i was dying to know. I learned that Trevor wrote his books to shed lights on his childhood, to introduce him to other kids. He is also born colored, which means his dad his white and him mom is black which is an illegal marriage. We already notices how funny the book is right? Well Trevor Noah is also a comedian who does stand up comedies, you could listen to his story and burst into laughter.

Lastly I highlighted my settings in notebooks. The books does not describe the settings very often, sometimes once in three chapters which was challenging for me to find. but in the end i found a few setting descriptions which made sense. first is intro to the american culture to south african places, how American culture became important in south africa, which was is chapter 1. Second is the population settings in Soweto, how the population of black are 90% and white are 10, though colored are super rare. More about introducing to Trevors new schools, he transfered alot of schools so the setting desription of them were interesting showing how his school were all different.

My Infographis

After digging further into humanism, l come to realize that l attend to believe and agree with what humanisms impact had brought, finding myself getting more pulled in by the topic and soon getting influenced by the beliefs, noticing that  it contributes to my everyday life, realizes l am more humanism than l thought. Humanists value learning and the arts, believing that knowledge empowers individuals, encouraging personal growth that people can achieve great things. I take classes learning about art everyday, seeing how much art is getting influenced by the movement of humanism more than now I realized! For example an art piece I been working on the past few days about this portrait of a young man, l included as much details in the eyes and skin as l could, keeping a plain background showing the importance and center of the human. I also believe that everyone deserve to be treated as fairly and as equal ad everybody else in decline of discrimination, treating individuals unfairly based on race, gender, or other characteristics is cruel and unfair.  I am not sure if this is apart of humanism but l also believe that humans should always take the lead, not being clogged up by artificial inteligence. As well as fake religions and cults. It is essential to take value of our own lives, not making up fake rumors and social media taking control of our and heart, as the posibilities are rapidly increasing.  Speaking of religion l also think it is essential to live as an induvidual instead of a religious group of people, religion doesn’t always represent something fairly and well. Somepeople believe the reason it rains is because god is bringing water for everyone because they praised them well, but actually it is because of faith and the scientific reactions all along.  As far as l can say, in relation to the piece l am a 90% humanist. That 10% of believing that not all people should automatically be treated well, some people works hard for their statuses and classes, not everyone lying on the streets are because of society, but because of themselves as quoted in many parts of the world “No shirt no shoes, no service. ”

Q1 Reading Reflection

Right now in 8th grade I am reading the book “The Sun Is Also A Star” By Nicola Yoon.  Because I did not read as much of books in the start of this new school year than last year, I decided to make a achievable reading goal for my reading journey. Since I am encouraging myself to read more books, not forcing myself to just read books without even knowing what I am reading and wasting my time, I want to create a measurable goal. I want to achieve detailed reading, scanning the pages but actually focusing with all my heart. I would also read one chapter each time. This will let me me understand what I am reading and have such feeling about it and be interested in reading more, this will also achieve my large goal of reading faster and more books. I will measure this by tracking the pages i read everytime to see my speed and ask myself if i actually understand what i read for the chapters

found poem conflict context.  Blue Green & Greyscale I am Poem

In this text, the narrator reflects on a time when they learned how to take justice into their own hands

        This short story talks about the main character Micheal gets in trouble with his father because of rejecting his older brothers invite.  clearly showing the conflict and the plot of the story, from the peaceful exposition, where the story starts off with exposing the scene but doesn’t give so much detail, staying on the main idea throughout the story .following to the rising action, then to the intense and nervous conflict. Then to the less tense falling action, lastly slowing down to the resolution, where nothing happens in this story.

        The Poem i wrote started of by Micheal sitting in his room practicing his signature quietly. Then his peacefulness is interrupted when his brother Skip disturbed inside his room asking if he want to go play ball and shoot some hoops. Which starts up the trouble, rising up higher to a mini problem, when he refused Skips offer, which triggered Skip, which made him decide to stick scotch tape on the Micheal’s head. Introducing the cause of the conflict, visualizing a mini conflict of human vs human in the readings head, starting to give them a root of what the conflict is going to be.  This movement also outraged the main character. I crossed out alot of the arguments of the “scotch tape on my head” and tried to take it out part, because it is not important to contribute the main plot, we just need to know what caused the conflict and an idea of what is the main conflict, not more details from the argument. Moving on I highlighted the very top of the rising action, where the mc decides to reach to his mother to tell on skip. This part I decided to include the mother’s characteristics, letting the reader know why Micheal decided to go tell his mother and not his father.  This also introduces a difference comparing the mc’s two different parent’s distinctive personalities. causing the main conflict. Moving on to the climax and main conflict, starting off when Micheal opened the door to his mothers room, only to to see the wrong parent. “And then I realized that I was talking to my father, color drained from my face.” showing how scary my fathers personality was, making my face turn white. “What the hell are you doing here?” “Skip put scotch tape on my head…” “You don’t knock?” I want to keep this converstation inside my poem because it shows why father is mad at me, never for such little reason because l didn’t knock, but because he was annoyed of me. Showing more information about Micheals father. Setting his anger in motion, triggering him to hit Micheal with his belt, “whap!” letting the whole text start to revolve around its external conflict which is abusing and happening outside the characters emotions. human vs human, main character vs dad conflict. Also with Skip standing outside the doorway irresponsible for the trouble he’s caused of course. “At this point I heard a wheeze of escaping laughter where my brother was standing, and saw him run out of the room.”

Lastly the revolution, ending the story as a flash. Ending with the mc replying to his father’s spiking personality. Finishing with a comment simply saying there was not much to do after.

overal with the two conflicts, l did not think Micheals opponents were being a good family member. How his brother does not think before he does something while still teasing Micheal by getting in trouble with his terrible biased father who the reader can totally tell, like his brother more than Micheal himself who did nothing wrong.
