Petra Collins (born December 21, 1992)[1] is a Canadian artist, director of photography, fashion model, and actress who rose to prominence in the early 2010s.
What do you admire about her photos?
I admire her photos because she shows Colored lighting and it makes her photo more of alive like a feeling
So I will use Petra Collins’s photography to make my photos more like a feeling than another lighting photo
More about Petra Collins
In 2010, Collins created the website “The Ardorous” as an online platform for young female artists. Reacting to the male-dominated art world, the group’s goal is to question contemporary ideologies of femininity and recast women in positive, empowered roles. Collins has also edited a book called Babe with a foreword by Tavi Gevinson, which is a culmination of over 30 international artists selected by Petra.[15]
In 2016, Collins was named one of Dazed & Calvin Klein‘s 100 Creatives Shaping Youth Culture[16] and one of Vogue’s 40 Creatives To Watch in 2016.[17] Collins was also named one of 30 Artists to Watch by Artsy.[18]
Collins hosted her first public art piece with Contact Photo on April 29, 2017, at King and Spadina in Toronto, Canada.[19] She completed her first featured narrative film in 2021.

6. The background provides a simple, neutral setting that doesn’t distract from the subject. The framed photos add a personal touch and suggest a home or indoor environment.
7. The composition is well-balanced, with the subject positioned slightly off-center, following the rule of thirds. The symmetrical framed photos on either side of the subject create a sense of balance.
8. The colors appear accurate and natural, with the subject’s skin tones and the warm, textured wall providing a pleasing color palette.
9. The depth of field is shallow, keeping the subject in focus while slightly blurring the background, which helps to draw the viewer’s attention to the main subject.

1. The eyes are immediately drawn to the subject’s face, particularly her direct gaze at the camera. This is the clear focal point of the image.
2. The composition effectively guides the viewer’s eyes to the subject’s face, which is the intended focus.
3. There are no distracting elements in the background, which is a plain, light-colored wall.
4. The exposure and lighting are well-balanced, creating a clean, high-quality look.
5. The current focal length seems appropriate, providing a close-up view of the subject’s face.
6. The plain background serves to isolate the subject, keeping the focus on her expression and features.
7. The composition is well-balanced, with the subject positioned slightly off-center, following the rule of thirds.
8. The colors, including the black and white stripes of the subject’s shirt, appear accurate and true to life.
9. The shallow depth of field helps to draw the viewer’s attention to the subject’s face and expression.

Statement of Intent
Skills Testing in Photography
Feelings and Emotions in Photography
So yeah the Statement of intent will help me to document my journey as a photo grapher and as student
The message that I want to show is about how small or unnoticeable objects or places can be beautiful, even though most people wouldn’t think about it in that way. I want my audience to notice that those objects in my photos can be beautiful and have them start noticing more objects and appreciating them more. I would want to find a photographer who takes photos of random objects or places and turns them into an abstract artwork. I feel like giving more purpose or notice to these objects can change your daily life and have you appreciate things more.
What are Portraits?
A portrait is a representation of a person, typically focusing on the face and expression, but it can also include the body and environment.
Examples of portrait photographers
Steve McCurry
“If you wait, people will forget your camera and the soul will drift up into view.”
Steve McCurry (b.1950), the American photographer, is perhaps the most prominent figure in photography today, celebrated for his remarkable body of work that encompasses some of the most iconic images of our time. While his oeuvre spans a range of styles, many of his most famous photos are portraits captured in everyday settings during his extensive travels. None is more renowned than ‘Afghan Girl,’ his breathtaking 1984 photograph of 12-year-old Sharbat Gula, which graced the cover of National Geographic the following year. It remains one of the most famous portraits in existence, embodying McCurry’s most famous quote (seen above).

Herb Ritts
“I like form and shape and strength in pictures.”
American Herb Ritts (1952-2002), one of the preeminent photographers of his era, was a master of his craft, demonstrated beautifully in his captivating monochrome portraits. His work is distinguished by a minimalist aesthetic, placing emphasis on the inherent beauty of the human form. Like predecessors Avedon and Penn, Ritts drew inspiration from various artistic media, including painting, sculpture, and film, resulting in stunning imagery that captured the essence of some of the world’s most prominent figures during the 1980s and 1990s.

I could have named more, but there are too many, but I have to name
What should /shouldn’t be in a portrait
What should? The person’s face matters more in portraits, Expressions, and sometimes their surroundings to make it have a context.
What shouldn’t? ; A distracting element that distracts from the foreground
Yes, like a hand takes a close-up shot, and it will show some emotion
When does a more abstracted representation cease to become a portrait?
If a part of a portrait is blurry, it can lose its impact—especially if you can no longer see who the person is or what they’re feeling. Capturing someone’s identity and emotion clearly is what gives a portrait its real meaning.
Is it possible to represent a person without them being present?
Yes, a Sustainable object that can still symbolize the person by showing the person’s emotions or characteristics
Does a portrait have to be a single photograph?
No, A sequence of images can tell more stories about the subject and can collectively be considered, and also try new shots.

This current photo is of a man who is just chilling on his red rickshaw, just enjoying life.
A rickshaw is initially referred to as a pulled rickshaw, a cart pulled by a person for one passenger, first used in 1879. Over time, cycle rickshaws, auto rickshaws, and electric rickshaws were created, largely replacing pulled rickshaws, except in some tourism situations.
And this artwork is called “The rest between journeys “
This photo talks about a sense of stasis in everyday life – the art of common living. The flag introduces a reference to national identity that situates the image within a cultural frame, while the expression of the man brings a human, individual element.
Thanks for your contribution!!!
