Problem with Our Non-Renewable Sources
You have a high chance of death if you live past 2050 because of the problems we cause to the environment. If we keep up the toxic production, our death is inevitable. “Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 000 additional deaths per year, from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea and heat stress”(WHO). This is why we need renewable energy that allows us to avoid these consequences because fossil fuel, toxic gas, etc. would not be a problem. Why do we need renewable energy sources? What types of renewable energy are there? How do we start using renewable energy? And how might you help?
Why Do We Need Renewable Sources?
We need renewable sources because it so useful for the world, and it helps to stop further environmental damage.
Figure 1 Graph of Energy Usage
As energy usage goes higher, the global temperature goes higher as well. This is because not enough is being done to stop climate change.
Figure 2 Graph of Global Temperature
This graph shows how global warming increases drastically and that action needs to be taken. So more renewable energy needs to be used for the world to stop using more unrenewable energy. Once stopped, nature would do its job to restore the environment. “Renewables was the world’s cheapest source of energy in 2020, new report shows. Renewables are now significantly undercutting fossil fuels as the world’s cheapest source of power, according to a new report”(Masterson). Renewable energy is not only going to help produce more energy that can be produced in renewable ways, which makes the energy clean, but also cheap. Renewable energies are natural, which makes them easy to harvest. Solar energy, for example, is energy very easy to collect because it only requires a bunch of solar panels and makes them in direct contact with sunlight. We need renewable energy because renewable energy is not only useful but also prevents further damage to the environment.
What types of renewable energies are there?
If using renewable energy instead of non-renewable energy is important, what types of renewable energies are there? If using renewable energy instead of non-renewable energy is important, what types of renewable energy are there?
Solar Energy
As the evolution of Earth’s life started in water and sunlight, sunlight is Earth’s most plentiful source of energy. However, the amount of solar power we can use differ depending on geographical location and season(eia).
Wind energy
Like solar power, the wind is clean and abundant. The turbines are used to harness electricity from the turbine’s spinning friction to harness wind energy. Wind energy may not be the best source since natural wind is often in a small number of locations. However, new designs are more efficient, as it also provides solutions to some of the wind turbines’ problems that the wind turbines have(eia).
Hydro energy
Hydro energy is one of the most commercially developed renewable sources. Hydro energy is harnessed by building a dam or barrier to creating flowed water to drive a turbine, which will generate electricity. Like other energies, the amount of energy that the dam or barrier could create depends on the location(eia).
Tidal energy
Tidal energy is like a combination of wind energy and hydro energy. It uses turbines to collect energy from the power of waves that the ocean generates(eia).
Geothermal energy
Geothermal energy is a source of renewable energy that uses the magma underneath the earth to generate energy. Geothermal energy is a good source of energy. However, the source can only be found in certain rare areas that are suited to harness geothermal energy(eia).
Biomass Energy
Biomass energy is created by solid fuel made from plant materials. Even though Biomass requires burning organic materials, it was developed to be much more efficient, and cleaner with current development. This process of creating energy converts industrial, agricultural, and domestic waste into liquid, gas fuel, and solid for a much lower economic and environmental cost(eia).
These sources are the most efficient, as they largely provide renewable sources that are very possible for the future world to use. A rather smaller percentage of our world uses renewable sources. The only problem is for people to stop relying on non-renewable sources, and start using renewable sources.
How do we use renewable energy?
From the previous paragraphs, the problems are clear. We have to stop using non-renewable energy because nature cannot survive the waste we create. Then how do we start using renewable energy? The transition from fossil fuel to renewable will not be easy. This is not something that can be just easily done. This needs the biggest power/game-changers in the world: governments. To change governments we need support from the world and the citizens. The citizens can start campaigns to use 100% renewable energy sources. Celebrities and companies could join the campaign.
New Chapter of Humanity
We should start using more renewable energy. Renewable energy is important because it is safe for the environment, yet cheaper. There are many ways around the world where natural renewable sources can be made from nature. It is also very possible to start using these renewable sources. But how could you help? From the basics, you could help by preserving energy. For instance, you could save electricity in small things, such as turning off the lights when not using them, or not using electronics that consume too much energy. But to see the bigger picture, the whole world must start using renewable energy. This solution needs to be something that makes enough impact that the whole world would change. There needs to be an action that makes everyone agree to renewable energy. For example, there could be a “trend,” in renewable energy. This “trend,” could be supported by the UN, governments, celebrities, companies, and personnel. This method can not only persuade many people to appreciate renewable energy but also have most of the world having positive thoughts about renewable energy sources. To stop using non-renewable energy, we need renewable energy sources for the safety of everyone.
