The Birth of Freedom

Some say that changes are rare and can only happen over a long period of time, but if I had anything to say it would be this idea is mistaken. During the revolution I have seen historical changes like shaping a new country from a restrained colony. For example, before the revolution it was a colony of British and now it is an independent country. Furthermore, another example of change is political power in the hands of an elected man. Previously, power was controlled by King George III who inherited the power from his family(monarchy) but now political power is now in the hands of Mr.President who is elected by the people.

Continuity, is things that are unbroken or continue to exist for a long period of time. I have seen examples continuity like white rich men in charge. Such as the founding fathers of the land, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are both white men who have rich family backgrounds. In addition, inequalities were still happening before and after the revolution. Sexism was continued after the revolution until 1920 women were allowed to vote.

From colonies to country- The American Revolution

Can you ever imagine what happened? From being a colony sent from Britain to now being one of the world’s most influential country? This video explains how Americans became independent (happened between 1775 and 1783). It all started after Chistopher Colombus found the land and the British and French fought for 7 years. to decide who was the owner. The British sent colonies to America called colonials and after the British won they stayed in America. The British were now broke and  kept forcing acts on the colonies but the colonials got tired of it and started a rebellion. This rebellion contained lots and lots of wars between the British and the Americans(main wars like the battle of Lexington and Concord and Crossing the Delaware). During these wars, major events like the First Continental congress  and the Second Continental Congress happened(which played key in uniting the colonies against Britain) .Overall, the Americans won and the Treaty of Paris was signed in September 3rd 1783, officially declaring that the United States is an independent nation! ALL THIRTEEN, ALL ALIVE

All Thirteen written by Christina Soontornvat, shows the incredible true story of how 12 children and their coach survived in a flooded cave without food for 9 days by using meditation. The story takes place in 2018 Thailand, Tham Lung cave. The story starts with a group of young soccer players went to explore a cave but sudden rain fall caused them to get trapped. Experts in different areas from around the world comes to help. The book teaches life lessons for all ages like trusting each other in difficult times can help you and nature can be beautiful yet deadly. How did they survive? How did they get out?  Read this book to find out!

Firstly, I want to introduce a big central idea in my book which is nature can be beautiful yet deadly. This is brought out throughout the story as they are trapped in mother nature and was almost killed. Where they were trapped in the flooding cave for 9 days without food and another 8 to rescue them out.

Secondly, I made a page about character traits about Coach Ek(the soccer coach). This page shows his traits, motivation and social issues that affect deeply in his life. I really like this coach because he has all the qualities of a good leader.

In contrast, I want to show a page of deep thinking. This page is focused on small ideas linking together forming a bigger idea that both small ideas share. I showed a complete understanding in the lesson connections. Using the idea of big leader to connect to responsibility which is both focused inside the cave rescue in Tham Luang.

Lastly, I want to show a page which both includes a social issue and a theme. The social issue shows a deep understanding of the surroundings in the book(Thailand). The theme is the message of what the author believes throughout the story which is “Teamwork from around the world makes dreams and hopes come true.

Now that you have read so much about my book, why don’t you go and try it yourself! I strongly recommend this book to all aged nonfiction lovers. In this book you will learn perseverance, teamwork and lots about diving. You can also see the movie version named Thirteen Lives!

Would you ever go to the barber again

The found poem above was taken from page 3 and 4 in “Lather and nothing else” by Hernando Tellez. It is an internal conflict where the main character/barber fights against his thought on whether to kill his enemy and be a hero(he is a revolutionary during a war) or just do his job. In the rising action the barber fin ds himself thinking all the possible things and outcomes he could do and, in the end, decides to let him go. In this passage the barber is a hesitant person because he is very thoughtful about how it will end in many situations for example if he kills Captain Torres, Torres’s blood would flow out on to the streets, and he would get chased(being a murderer). He also thinks about if he lets Torres go how his party would question him. This shows his inner feelings and fighting. Hopefully, all fighting in the world ends eventually.

Laser cut Project- storage boxxx

Eric Wei

I made a box with different grides for storage. I made this for keeping the things on my desk clear. I ran into this problem just one week before this design project started. I have pens, sharpeners, charger and many little gadgets that i need to keep in order. When i got home I measured the space on my table and found the size i wanted and started designing. The first change i made was the fingers, i accidentally made my fingers all going outward and none dented in which makes it not connect, another important change i made was when there wasn’t much time left so i changed the secret compartment into a separate floor for storage. I think i did pretty well and i’m satisfied with my finished piece.

I think that i learnt a lot during this project from a person that don’t know how to use fusion to a person that can make things i want and need. I used, trim, line, mirror, 2 point rectangle. The most challenging part was making sure that all the pieces fit and the slots slit in. I had a big problem were i forgot to include the thickness of the sides on the bottom piece which made some pieces pop out. I fixed this by adding a 0.5 on each side and rebuilt the fingers. Something really cool i found was that how easy it was to create or make a thing you want, like if you had to do it by hand you would take at least a month but on this app and with the cutter it would just take a week. It was really easy to delete and make new adjustments. Using just one sketch is more convenient and helpful in this project.

I think that i have done a good job producing my project even though its not fully wood. I know that i might have been lazy to read all the texts but i think i have a good attitude overall. For future students-sometimes things are not as difficult as they look like and sometimes its not as easy but if you keep trying and changing you will get it right. My project was (i think) hard enough for me and that i challenged myself. But if i have to change i would add a pattern on the sides if there was more time. Something i think that should definitely keep is the enthusiasm and humor of this class which really motivates me. I think this class is as good as it is so nothing to drop. This project was really fun and i understood most of the things.

Basketball Legends game-cardboard arcade

My biggest success was making the top basket moveable and also adding lights. It was successful  because we couldn’t use the first idea(using lego mechanics)but we successfully made it with sticks and cardboard. The lights was also successful because they lite up when needed and could also be controlled.

One piece of advice i would give a future doing this project is that make backup plans for thing that are difficult and make a backup machine for something that moves. The moving things are the easiest to ware out since they are the ones played with the most.

One thing I’d like to change  is the catapult because it sometimes shoot over the backboard because the angel of the wooden stick was hot glued to upwards which doesn’t give the user space to pull back and release.
