Henry Brown, born in 1728 March 19th, wrote a journal during the American Revolution. This journal was later celebrated due to its detailed description on the events that happened during revolution. From his journal, it was predicted that he was a British male, aged around 37 when the journal was written. He is about 173cm tall, but it seemed that he claimed to be 177cm. All his life, Henry believed that the British were the most powerful. However, as the American Revolution happens, he starts to doubt what he had believed his entire life. Despite this, Henry truly would have had adored the land of Britain even it were not the power that it had. Therefore, Henry does not betray the Britain and works for the parliament until the moment his heart stops.
A revolution is not a revolution if there are no changes brought to the world by it. There is no exception for the American Revolution. One of the changes that the American Revolution brought is that it introduced a new form of government to many people including our main character, Henry Brown, who was a member of the British parliament. In 1732, George Washington became the first president of America, marking the start of a democratic government. One other change brought by the revolution was that it gave power to the hands of ordinary men. Because America became an independent country, they were able to be democratic, unlike the British. Having a democratic government means that ordinary people’s voices are also heard when making a decision as a nation. The final change that the revolution brought was that it made birth no longer destiny. This made nobody deny opportunities that come to them because of who their parents are. In my perspective, the changes that the revolution brought were overall positive and helpful. Although nowadays equality seems natural, back then it would have been a great privilege. It must have been fascinating for the Americans to suddenly have so many rights. On the other side, however, not everyone had more rights. Some things stayed the same. For example, slavery in the South was still ongoing. Many people, usually people of color, worked in cotton plantations. They also worked in rice, corn, and sugarcane farms. Another thing that did not change was the rights of women and Native Americans. These people did not have freedom even after the revolution and they were not allowed to vote for the representatives or work in the government. Although more rights were claimed, the wealthy stayed wealthy, and the poor stayed the poor. In conclusion, the revolution was worth it, because it brought many positive changes not only to America but also to the world.
