The Pursuit of Peace

The French Revolution was a big shake-up in France. Many people pursued freedom and fairness, but many people wanted the current life. After all those events, many things seem to have changed. Like the social gaps that used to exist before the Revolution that gave the higher Estates more power and privileges. The action of giving greater privileges based on birth and social class is obviously an unfair choice to have. Therefore, it was soon abolished during the Revolution so that everyone had the same rights. Moreover, the transition from monarchy to republicanism is also an important change of the revolution. The monarch before the revolution uses absolute power and the divine right that gave power to the king in the excuse of God. However, the revolution changed it by establishing a new government accountable to the people. Meaning the governance of France has been changed.

However, the more things change, the more they stay the same. The French Revolution did brought up a lot of changes, but there are still things that stayed the same. Like the cultural traditions of France. It continued through the French Revolution without changing a lot. Elements of French culture, such as language, literature and art remained identical throughout the political and social change. Moreover, an obvious thing that stayed the same is the number of people in power. Before the revolution with Louis XVI in power, controlling the whole country, now with Napoleon in power. Notice how before and after the revolution it’s always one man in power; therefore, this could stand as a point that stayed the same.

“Don’t be Evil”

The inspirational book Google It by Anna Crowley Redding describes the true story of how two students revolutionized the world by committing themselves to the passion of organizing the world’s internet. Starting with seemingly typical homework, but what they ended up with is unexpected: the most innovative and influential company in the world, Google. What they experienced was arduous, sometimes encountering failures and frustrations. Still, Larry and Sergey never gave up.
They knew success would soon arise for them.

Anna Crowley Redding shares an informational, interesting, and inspirational story of bravery and intelligence. My experience of reading Google It was compelling; nevertheless, let’s move on to my ‘probes’ of the book.

During the first few days of reading, many central ideas or themes ‘popped out’, but which one would continue and pass through the whole book? I looked at the title of the book: Google It, and I knew the whole book will be about Google. I was right about my inference. I was about to notice facts and ideas about Google throughout the whole book. Therefore,  it made it easy to add different quotes about my central idea from different places in the books too.

Not long after my first central idea I started my first theme. At that time I was reading about the start of Google. I really noticed how hard it was for Sergey and Larry to find the resources for their project. Being only a normal, Stanford student, they did not really have a lot of power to be able to obtain enough resources. Despite the challenges, Sergey and Larry were able to find ways to solve their problems through ‘picking up’ unused computers. Though this problem only appeared for a section of the book, it certainly brought a theme that all of us should learn about.

As I moved further into my book I really noticed the unique and the special about Google It. It’s not like any ‘normal’ non-fiction book, filled only with facts and information. Google it was able to contain fact based information, but feels like a story book. I really find the characters abundant, filled with different traits, and thoughts; so, I wanted create a page for Larry and Sergey to show their unique traits. They are similar, but definitely have some differences too.

I was already at the middle of the book, but I really wanted to move back to the start of my book to find something that I might have missed. At first I didn’t seen ‘backgrounds’ and the ‘inspirations’ of Sergey and Larry that important compared to the other informations. But after re-reading I really find the the ‘inspirations’ for Sergey and Larry crucial. Without the inspirations, maybe Larry and Sergey won’t reach today’s ‘height’ ! I wonder what’s the cause of the inspirations, and the effect of the inspirations; therefore, this pages was created. I really placed effort in this page, and I’m really proud for it.

Thank you for spending your time ‘digging’ into my notebook. I hope from today’s experience of my blog you are interested into learning more about Google. Reading Google It by Anna Crowley Redding would really be a pleasure, increasing your knowledge about Google more while about to enjoy non-fiction! Finally, if my title seems difficult to understand, you can always Google it on Google.

Have a great day!

Renaissance News; Famous Humanist Dissected a Body For His Art Sculpture!

I am 75% a humanists.
Until today, Humanism still has a great impact on us too. The main goal for humanism was to live well, achieve personal growth, and make the world a better place, and all the changes, rebirths, education, and using ancient ideas are to achieve the goal. And the way of working and changing for a goal is similar to how I do things. For example, when I meet a problem in golf, where when I hit the ball, the ball goes to the right. I first ask myself for the reason of the problem. I found out that the reason the ball goes to the right is because my lack of muscles on my arms, and they could not put enough force on the club. Then I work for this goal, going to the gym and allowing my arm to gain more strength. This way of doing small things for a big goal is similar to how the humanists do things.

A Special Customer

This found poem was created from the short story “Lather and nothing else” by Hernando Tellez on page 3. It shows an internal conflict between the different parts of the barber, where the barber stands as both the protagonist and the antagonist. In page 3 of the story the barber met a special customer, but unluckily the customer that walked in is an enemy of him, and he got into a problem between choosing to kill his enemy and get revenge for his friends, or to treat him like any other customers, providing service for him. The picture on my found poem used a black-and-white color palette, which could well show the violence like killing and murdering. Although at the end the barber chose to control himself and pretended that the enemy didn’t come in and let’s pray that he had made the right choice…

My Cardboard Arcade; Penalty Kick

This is my cardboard arcade, about a soccer penalty kick game. Making the game was fun, but we also met some obstacles .

When we was building the shooter, we tested it a few times but the stick keep falling off. We  first tried to break a hole inside the larger stick, and poke the stick inside. But it turned out that the large stick will break if we poke a hole in. But I came up an idea. If we wrap the hot glue around the short stick, it will give it double strength and will not break that easily. That worked out! The stick wont fly out no matter how how hard if we pull it.

Even though there were obstacles, but It also helped me develop better glue gun skill, and improved me on thinking and finding ways to solve problems even if something didn’t work. It helped me to keep going even if the thing didn’t even work. I will keep trying my best to fix and improve the thing.

Taking about improving, there are still something I want to improve on the game, the Net. At first, we thought the net is ok . It works. Put after we put it in test, we found out that it is ugly and it’s hard for the goalkeeper to see and react fast. But it was too late, we have no time to change it. So after the 4th graders come, I think this is what we will change and improve.

Overall, I think this was a success, everyone played our game and had fun. I think our game made their day better.

This is my cardboard arcade, about soccer penalty kick.
